''stack level too deep'' error
What might be causing this error? I see it once in 2-3 days and it goes away
when I restart backgroundrb. Quoted below is
my backgroundrb_server_11007.log file. Can I do anything to avoid this?
Thanks,
Raghu

What does this error mean?
Below is the content of my backgroundrb_server_11007.log
This seems to happen in a non-repeatable way - so every 2 days or sometimes
after 4-5 days, my b/g process dies with this error. Is this something
anyone else has seen - any fixes?
Thanks,
Raghu

Can someone help with this error?
Hello all,
I get this intermittent error saying OpenURI::HTTPError. At the bottom of
the email is what is reported in my backgroundrb_server_<port>.log file. The
process_netflix_reviews method is parsing (in the background) Netflix''s RSS
feeds. This error also pretty much brings down the BDRb process and to
recover, I am forced to do a
./script/backgroundrb stop

Question on number of processes engendered by BDRb
I have two workers (ie two files in my RAILS_ROOT/lib/workers directory) on
my Rails app. When I run a top on my box, I see *three* processes called
packer_worker_r. Shouldn''t I just be having two? What is the third process
for?
Here is an extract of the output from my top command. The PIDs are 7084,
7085 and 7083.

Sequence of multiple background process submissions
I have a question on how multiple b/g processes that are kicked off get
handled in terms of sequence/schedule.
On my site, a user enters an RSS feed to be processed and since this takes
about 5-10 secs, I pass the process off to a background job and meanwhile do
some Ajaxy spinners and tap-dancing until the job completes and then
redirect_to the appropriate page. This works great.

Unexpected NameError when invoking task on worker
Hi, I''m brand new to BackgrounDRb and trying to figure out the setup.
I cloned the git repository today as listed on the BackgrounDRb website.
Starting out with a very basic worker, but BackgroundDRb is crashing
on a NameError. Any help to resolve this issue would be greatly
appreciated! Thank you in advance!!
I am also attaching a text file with the output below since it might

Backgroundrb-devel Digest, Vol 24, Issue 7
Hi, all. Just wondering if anyone has tried using the Paperclip file
upload plugin with Backgroundrb. My current implementation uses
attachment_fu - I save the file initially to the file system without
generating thumbs, then a bdrb process picks up that file, generates
thumbs, and saves to S3. This works fine and dandy, the only hitch is
I want to save image metadata in the same table

Startup error
Hi all,
I''m new to this list (and pretty new to backgroundrb). I''d like to
jump in with a question, I hope you don''t mind.
I''m trying to get my site working with backgroundrb to sent mail. It''s
pretty basic stuff and I got it working pretty fast on my local
machine (os x leopard). Unfortunately, when I try to deploy to my
production machine I

Packet error on startup suddenly.
Hello, I''ve been using backgroundrb successfully for months now, but
suddenly I''m getting the error below when trying to start it up. I did
some searching and I see that someone posted about it last month:
http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/backgroundrb-devel/2008-April/001685.html
Anyone have any idea what could have happened? I made no changes to
the code or configs, but I did

Schedule write errors?
My BackgrounDRb server intermittently bails out with the following exception
in the middle of a long running task running on a Worker sub classed
from BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker (the point at which it raises this exception
is different each time it runs)

Couple questions on BDRb and concurrent processing
My Rails site uses BackgroundDRb and I have a couple of questions:
1. Can someone point me to some sample code/examples for how to use
thread_pool? The website doc says to add a line
======
pool_size 10
======
in my Worker class which seems straightforward.
I wasn''t able to understand this part though:
=========
thread_pool.defer(wiki_scrap_url) { |wiki_url| scrap_wikipedia(wiki_url) }

can''t call any methods on workers
Hi,
I''m a long time backgroundrb user, still stuck using the very ancient
original version from Ezra (not even Ezra''s 2.0 version, I''m using the
one that didn''t really have a version number). The 2.0 version did
very little but crash for me. Anyway I finally got some time set
aside to try out this new version you all have been developing.

BDRB, new version questions
Hi,
we are trying to use BDRB for background processing of long-running
reports, and have two issues - one is that worker does not see our
Report class from Rails, throws a:

right usage of bdrb
Hi,
i''m going to implement a syndication-service, which will get lists in
xml with some meta-data an enclosed video files, which will get encoded
at the end. The syndication run will be startet every five minutes of
a full hour.
So i thought to build 4 Worker. One for checking which feeds to
syndicate (syndication_worker) at a specific time, one for processing
the list

Using the ip flag
Hey All,
I am looking for an example of the proper config settings for background rb to run my rails app and my backgroundrb instance on separate machines (or more precisely, to have a rails cluster with one backgroundrb machine). Does anyone have such examples?
Thanks!

Job Queue
After some initial stumblings, I think I''ve got the hang of
backgroundrb. It''s great! I''d been thinking for many many months how
cool something like this would be!
I''m trying to make a "job queue". That is, a pool of worker threads
monitor a queue. When a job appears, one of the workers grabs it and
executes the task. When complete, the worker

Problems with async worker request
Sorry if this comes through twice. I already sent this once, before joining
the mailing list.
I''m attempting to use Backgroundrb to handle asynchronous pdf creation, but
in doing so, I''ve run into a very strange problem. Below is a method that''s
called from the controller which creates a new worker, then grabs the worker
and calls the ''build_pdf''
