Samba4 - global catalog (GC) cannot be contacted using Windows 7 RSAT
Hi Rowland, Just a curious question. Since the origin of my AD comes from PDC. If I were to try and do a classicupgrade, using same IP, same hostname, same realm, will my windows pc have login issues? Configured AD backend but getting different uid and gid
Hi, Thanks for the advice, I know these are already EOL but please bear with me on that. I also do use CentOS 7 and Windows 10 for further testing. Anyway, I found out is due to my "idmap DOMAIN : range" value in smb.conf was not set to the correct range. Another thing is libnss-winbind package must make sure to be installed properly. After these things are resolved, I managed to see

Failover DC did not work when Main DC failed
Is DC4 listed in in an A record for your mycompany.com? Do logs show that it's answering requests during the course of a normal workday? If so ... time to simulate DC3 failure, I guess. Samba4 - global catalog (GC) cannot be contacted using Windows 7 RSAT
Hi Rowland, In fact currently in my test environment using the same version of OS 6.10 and Samba 4.8.5. I ran 'netstat -plaunt | egrep "ntp|bind|named|samba|?mbd"', I have :::3268, :::3269, I do not see 0.0.0.0:3268 and 0.0.0.03269. While I use a Windows PC join to my test domain, I have no issues with GC. Not sure how the GC problem can happen but seems to me it looks like a

Configured AD backend but getting different uid and gid
Hi, Thank you for replying. User home directory creation is working without the need to edit /etc/pam.d/common-session The logon script I mentioned here is a in-house script to handle directory mounting for file server access, and create shortcut on the account desktop for different logins. On my Linux machines, currently all is done manually by local user account creation and by adding the

Hi Rowland, Currently using Samba 4.8.5 2 x DCs running on CentOS 6.10 (Final) Configured 1 DC via classic upgrade, and the latter DC join AD forest. Would it be alright if I were to redo the classic upgrade? Hope to hear from you soon. List of reacheable partners
Hi everybody. Is there a way to have a list of reacheable partners and its connection status? I need to list all partners in any tinc instance, its status (connected / disconnected) and connection method (direct, relayed thru other partner, etc.) Thanks! -- *Ing. WG: HOWTO samba4 centos5.5 named dnsupdate drbd simple failover
centOs5.5/samba4/named here is a short guide setting it up to work. I added TSIG for bind-master amd bind-slave. Update to samba4 alpha13 added (installing git on CentOs 5.5). If you do this howto right now you will start with samba4 alpha13. You do not need the update section. But you need git for your installation because the rsync-thing is broken!!!!!! First of all do not install the bind

Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
Rowland, What did you request as DNS? Samba + Bind + DLZ ? If yes, the fact your two DNS are replying "I am SOA" is a feature from Bind9 or from DLZ patch. That's important as a standard Samba AD designed without Bind is using LDAP defined entry for SOA. Asking to the five Samba DC I have here who's SOA, they all replied the same server, the one declared in SOA LDAP entry. Of
