Did so (I am following a script by now, so it does not take too
long), but I feel more and more lost - there must be always
something different I do wrong:
Now I configured DNS the other way round, pointing every host to the
DC and using

I know the latter (had to delegate the zone in bind after all), but
"wins support=yes" must have been created either by Debian or by
"domain provision".

setting up a new ADS infrastructure
I try to set up a small ADS infrastructure: 1 samba ADS-controller,
1 samba file server, 2 Linux and 6 Windows clients. Starting with
controller and file server, quite a lot of things work, but not
everything. Here it starts getting complicate: looking for manuals,
googling for error messages leads to lots of different advices for
different versions... not easy. There are open questions, but I am

[OT] Survey about FS/OS developers
Sorry for any cross-posting!
Hello,
My name is Frauke Lehmann and I'm writing my master thesis about the
social formation of free software/open source (FS/OS) developers. A
questionnaire is one part of my research - besides interviews and
observations.
It would be really nice, if you supported my survey by filling in my
questionnaire (takes 20-30 min).
I understand FS/OS developers as

replace double backslash with singel backslash
I want to replace \\ with \ in:
str <-
"C:\\DOKUME~1\\u0327336\\LOKALE~1\\Temp\\RtmpQ5NJ8X\\TIRIS_PICS\\1_Img.jpg"
and tried:
gsub("\\\\", "\\", str)
but this removes the \\ without replacing them by \
Any help much appreciated,
Kay

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
hiermit m?chte ich bei Ihnen nachfragen, ob die f?r Splus

gsub: replacing double backslashes with single backslash
Hello everybody,
this might be a trivial question, but I have been unable to find this using
Google. I am trying to replace double backslashes with single backslashes using
gsub. There seems to be some unexpected behaviour with regards to the
replacement string "\\". The following example uses the string C:\\ which should
be converted to C:\ .

Gnome-terminal's backslashes look like Ws with a horizontal line through -- how to get a backslash?
Hello!
I've just started trying gnome-terminal (instead of xterm) because of
its "tabbing" facility. However, I note that with it backslashes appear
something like a W with a horizontal line through it. Any known way to
get a backslash to appear as a backslash?
To see what I mean, use gnome-terminal with
echo '\'
in bash, ksh, etc.
Regards,
Chip Campbell
