I apologize but that is what I meant by black box. The Samba3 server is our
server. It connects to the LDAP that is out of my control and extends the
users' entries to the Windows desktops.
If it's easier to visualize we're getting LDAP as a service from the
central campus IT department. It is then on us to provide services our
school needs to our students, faculty and staff. They

Even if I am still thinking in the past it doesn't invalidate the problem I
came here to get guidance on. Instead I just get talked down to by some or
others don't even read the situation I'm trying to solve.
I don't need it to work like it used to in the NT4 sense. I don't need to
use NT4 protocols. I'm just in need of not having Samba4 write in all of
its documentation

You can sync users simply wrapping some

That is correct. I'm not adverse to using AD. I've used real AD in many
environments in the past and to be honest the Samba4 AD seems to work
really well. I just need to have all my users from our central LDAP. The
passwords would need to match so that students, faculty and staff can use
the existing campus wide tools. Thank you.

Hi Vex,
There's always the alternative to install a Microsoft server, and pay
for everything. For an educational institution, the license fees are
acceptable, but the MS licensing conditions are very complex. In
principle you need a license for every device that connects to a MS
server, plus the OS license(s). And the hardware. Another alternative is
Redhat IPA (and clones). And

Samba DC to Samba NT4 Domain Trust
Hello! I'm trying to create a two way trust between a Samba DC and a Samba
NT4 domain both are 4.10.9. The issue I'm seeing is that while I can
establish a one way trust from the NT4 PDC to the DC using the following
commands;
net rpc trustdom add sambaad thepassword
net rpc trustdom establish sambaad
I enter the password for PDC$ and the trust is established.
When I go into Domains and

Single sign-on for CentOS-6
Does anyone here use a Samba4 setup for single sign-on for MS_Win workstations
and CentOS-6 boxes? Does anyone here use it for imap and/or smtp
authentication? We are experimenting with replacing our existing Microsoft
domain controllers with Samba4 based controllers and are contemplating moving
all authentication for all our systems, Microsoft and CentOS based, over to
Samba when, or if, this

OpenLDAP proxy to samba4 AD
Rowland,
The *openldap* will be the same that is already working on our campus
(technological courses).
I have samba3 on a freebsd, but the samba4 I will switch to Debian.
I believe that in addition to the *smb.conf*, I have to also copy the
following folders:
*/etc/samba/*
*/var/lib/samba/*
Proceeds?

OpenLDAP proxy to samba4 AD
I greatly appreciate the answers. Are of great value to me and to others
who like me do not have much experience.
Another question. :D
I believe that we will use debian as distribution for the new Samba4. What
I need to copy from the old to the new distro?

migrating from samba 3 to samba 4
Hi all, after the news that samba 4 is now supporting user lockouts after
bad password attempts we need to plan our roadmap on migrating from Samba 3
to samba 4.
We currently have Samba version 3.0.7-1.3E.1 installed with (passwd)
database as a backend.
I would appreciate if anyone can guide me on the migration process.
Our old server

Samba4 and DNS
Hey Everyone,
I've been reading through the Samba4 docs, but I am a bit confused,
so please forgive me if I have missed anything obvious.
I am trying to setup Samba4 as a Domain Controller for our
department. We do not control our DNS; that is done through campus IT.
All of our workstations (soon to be members of the domain) already
have entries in campus DNS. If I were to

[OT]multi-master DNS
Hello all,
We have quite a bit of environment on "cloud". We are using our own
domain names. For this purpouse we stood up a BIND9 DNS instance on
Centos 7. And, this being the cloud, we enabled key based dynamic DNS
for instances to register themselves when they are spun-up. We have a
single master and multiple slaves. all is well, untill mater goes down
and we need to spin-up

Samba4 as a "plain LDAP" server?
This is probably an insane question, but I'm going to ask it anyway...
Does Samba4's embedded LDAP server also support being used as an ordinary
(*nix-style) LDAP authentication server, at least for simple, basic use cases?
Or is it necessary to have the OpenLDAP backend running to handle normal LDAP
authentication?

Samba3b2, solaris, AD suport and libiconv.
Hi all,
I am attempting to build samba3 beta2 for AD support, and I've run into a brick wall.
I am using Solaris 2.7 and 2.9, with gcc 2.95.2, with krb5-1.2.8 and (now) libiconv-1.9.1
Firstly, I am getting errors of the like:
Error loading module '/usr/local/samba/lib/charset/CP850.so': ld.so.1: ./smbclient: fatal:
/usr/local/samba/lib/charset/CP850.so: open failed: No such file or

class Message < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :topic
end
class ForumController < ApplicationController
def post
message = Message.new(params[:message])
@topic = Topic.find(params[:id])
