Samba AD DC tries to start and fails on reboot
Hai Jonathan,? Only one question left then does it work now? ;-) if you added the ipv6 to hosts file? run hostname -I these ipnumers , add these in hosts and samba should always start.. Unless, your using dhcp.. that might be bit different.. greetz, ? Louis ? ? Van: Jonathan Kreider [mailto:jonathan.kreider at gmail.com] Verzonden: donderdag 17 september 2020 15:09 Aan: L.P.H. van

Time server on AD DC in an LXD container.
Further investigations reveal: --- C:\WINDOWS\system32> w32tm /monitor GetDcList failed with error code: 0x800706BA. Exiting with error 0x800706BA --- error 0x800706BA indicates that the RPC server is unavailable. Any ideas? samba-tool gpo listall error
More problems... So cat /etc/resolv.conf yields nothing. root at ad2:~# ll /etc/resolv.conf lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 Jun 17 2018 /etc/resolv.conf -> ../run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf Shows a broken link. Since this is Ubuntu 18.04 with systemd and the stub-resolv.conf missing, I'm lost. I'll test my google fu to try to figure this out, but if someone can point me in the right

samba-tool gpo listall error
Greeting, I'm trying to figure out how to use GPOs in my samba AD. There's an awful lot that I don't know. But along the way of learning I found this: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/GPO_Backup_and_Restore And I decided to try the "samba-tool gpo listall" command that I found there to confirm that samba thinks it has the GPOs that I think it does. But I get this error:

Time server on AD DC in an LXD container.
After reading the instructions at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Time_Synchronisation, I still have questions about how samba interacts with nptd. The issue is that LXD doesn't want containers setting the time and so won't start ntpd at container startup even though it's enabled in systemd. The host does sync it's time with a national time server, so we can assume that the

AD DC DNS question
OS = Ubuntu 18.04 in an LXD container Samba 4.11.x and up Is there a way to have DNS resolution on the server that can coexist with the samba ad dc internal DNS server? The way that I have it set up, whenever samba is not running, then I can't use any web resources b/c everything goes through the samba internal DNS. So I can't do system updates and upgrades unless samba is running. I saw

Building samba for Ubuntu 18.04
Rowland & Louis, Would either or both of you be kind enough to send me a copy of your configure script? That's the part that has so many options that I'm a bit overwhelmed. Also, the Ubuntu way of doing it is different than the default samba way. The other possibility is that I can run smbd -b on my Ubuntu installation and copy those options to my configure script. What I would

Cannot set Windows ACL security permissions Ubuntu 18.04 LXD privileged container
I'm tying to set up a member server for serving files following the instructions at: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs. Since I'm not an expert with log files or debugging, I need help troubleshooting the following: When I get to the part where I connect to the member server from the Windows Computer Management tool, I get a long message starting with

samba-tool gpo listall error
You have a few. But since you disabled the systemd-resolved service. rm /etc/resolv.conf echo "search $(hostname -d)" |sudo tee -a /etc/resolv.conf echo "nameserver $(hostname -i)" |sudo tee -a /etc/resolv.conf echo "nameserver 8.8.8.8" |sudo tee -a /etc/resolv.conf Would do it, and add extra dc's there ip as nameserver if needed offcourse. Ps. On this.

samba-tool gpo listall error
My google fu quickly turned up this info: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/564673/wheres-my-stub-resolve-conf-missing which suggests that I need to start systemd-resolved.service. However, since this is an AD DC, I want samba to provide the DNS. So I've disabled systemd-resolved.service. I suppose that the anti-systemd crowd will go into fits about this. Does anyone have a solution?

Fwd: Samba AD DC tries to start and fails on reboot
Hi Louis, It _is_ now working. I can stop and restart the container and samba comes up. However, I've not changed anything to my knowledge. The only thing that I've done is disabled and enabled the samba-ad-dc.service once or twice in fiddling around with this. Perhaps that was enough to get systemd to realize that it really did need to wait until the network was up before trying to

Building samba for Ubuntu 18.04
I would like to develop my own ability to build samba for Ubuntu. The Ubuntu packages are woefully out of date. My main question is whether I should build samba with the same configuration options as the Ubuntu packages, or use the default samba configuration. Mostly I'm concerned about the paths. Also, I would build the full version of samba with AD DC and member server capabilities FWIW.

Samba AD DC tries to start and fails on reboot
Hai Jonathan, This is/looks like a resolving issue fd61:5ced:6c27:0:216:3eff:fe9b:802a << is this, 'this' server or a remote ? You have mutiple options, but try the most simple one. Take above add it in /etc/hosts ( if mulple dc's might be needed todo that on all DC's.) And if that fixes it, add it as AAAA record to the DNS, ( AND, dont forget the PTR record on the
