Samba 4.11.3, 4.10.11 and 4.9.17 for Centos7/RHEL7
Hi everyone,
I've posted some rpm builds of samba 4.11.3, 4.10.11 and 4.9.17 for
RHEL/Centos 7.x (currently 7.7). The 4.11 rpms use the python3 and
python3-devel rpms introduced in the standard RHEL/Centos repos at the
same time as the 7.7 version.
Comments and/or testing feedback would be most welcomed.

Samba 4.10.8 and 4.9.13 for rhel7/centos7 rpms
Hi everyone,
In case anyone's interested, I've posted the rpm builds of samba 4.10.8
that I'm using on RHEL7.7. (I run these in VMs, serving as AD DCs for my SOHO).
These rpms use the default python2 from the system.
The 4.10.x SPEC file is now more closely aligned with upstream (Fedora
SPEC file) and I've yet to test these builds using the system's python3 on
RHEL7.

Samba 4.8.10 for rhel7/centos7 rpms
Adding Alexander (cc'ed, thank you)
Hi Sergio,
I found some hints (dating back almost a year ago) about why gnutls-3.4
might be needed:
https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2018-April/127282.html
I don't know how much of this still holds true (I've been running an AD DC
with rhel7's gnutls 3.3.z for over a year without apparent issues).

Vincent

That's probably doable but you'd have to BETA-test for me since I don't
have a working ceph cluster at home. The information

sssd not a good idea
That's clearly a documentation bug. As for the samba integration, it's now
in its own guide:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/windows_integration_guide/index
(this is what I followed on 7.5/7.6 to consume realmd).
Let me open a BZ about this...

cutting corners (4.10.2 on el7.6)
Hi All,
I'm not well versed in the samba code base so I'm asking here.. :)
I only wanted to run a small AD/DC for my SOHO (1 spouse, 3 kids, 1 dog & 1 cat).
I've managed to build 4.10.2 on rhel7.6 with gnutls-3.3.29 and python-2.7.
(this required an updated cmocka, which in turn required an updated cmake)
but...
building without testsuite and without clustering (ctdb) allows

unexplained Replication failures...?
Hi all,
I'm running in circles trying to debug replication failures on samba
4.7.6:
dc00 : is a VM on KVM host (attached to a bridge on local LAN)
dc01 : is a similarly configured VM on another KVM host.
I've forcibly demoted and re-promoted dc01 but I still cannot get
automatic replication to work:
root at dc00 ~]# samba-tool drs showrepl
Krynn\DC00
DSA Options: 0x00000001

I've uploaded the Debian Buster samba 4.12 packages to the buster-experimental repo.
These need some extra love in tests, so if your able to please these a bit.
And report back to me/the samba list.

RHEL7/Centos7 with Samba AD
Hi All,
I know RHEL has bad press here but I'd like to share a different opinion
(works for me) and maybe share some of my settings.
BTW, Those views are my own, not those of my employer.
I run a small AD at home. The setup is as follows:
- two AD DCs (RHEL7.6 KVM virtual machines + Samba 4.8.7 rpms based on
SPECs from TranquilIT/Fedora).
- several Win10 laptops joined to the domain.

cutting corners (4.10.2 on el7.6)
Hi Garming,
Thanks for taking the time to enlighten me. I do happen to have two DC's
and in my limited testing, 4.10.2 seems to function properly as an AD/DC
on el7.6 with the packages I built. As I'm not using those DC's for file
serving in a clustered setup, it is also my interpretation that I can do
without ctdb (this one had a specific requirement for a higher version of

Samba 4.10.6 for rhel7/centos7 rpms
Hi everyone,
I've posted some updated source and binary rpms following the release of
updates by the samba project. Updated rpms include samba-4.10.6 and
ldb-1.5.5.
Here are the links:
As usual, these work fine for me (4.10.6) but YMMV. Please do report
issues if you find some.

libvirt and VMWare Workstation Shared Server mode (of GSX history)
Hi everyone,
I searched previous postings and I couldn't find a definitive answer on
this..
I run a small lab of RHEL/Centos Based servers on which there's VMWare
Workstation running on a non-standard port but still manageable by tools
like VMrun (and the Fusion of Workstation GUI, of course).
I'm trying to use virsh with this setup and getting the following error
