Very strange issue copying only certain files to a share
I've been troubleshooting this issue for over a week and am running out of ideas. Generally everything works fine. I can copy files into the share, create and delete files and folders. However when copying *some* files from windows specifically it will say "The destination already has a file named "a"". A size 0 file by that name is then created. No files exist in the

When I created the User Documentation page "Configure Samba to Work Better with Mac OS X?, my intent was to help others in the same situation I am: I have a WD MyCloud (Gen1) running an old version of samba (4.3.11) with no expectation that the firmware would be upgraded for the latest & greatest samba. The device is still usable, but was not optimized for Macs, so I ssh?d into the

Friendly Reminder: Huge number of small files performance regression from 3.5.16 to 4.6.5 with identical smb.conf
Andreas, A few thoughts regarding your system 1) If it's a home system and you're specifically concerned about mitigating CVE 2017-7494, (a) verify that your share isn't mounted 'noexec' - if it's mounted this way then you're safe (b) if not (a), then add the [global] parameter "nt pipe support = no". This will break functionality that relies on support for

Hai, Personaly, i agree with Todd, having a few clear examples with the samba versionnumbering in it. How about, adding a sub page in : https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configure_Samba_to_Work_Better_with_Mac_OS_X With something like a section that shows : "User contributed examples" Rowland *(and Ralph), what do you guys think? Why not add a section like that for most things.

missing msdfs referrals from samba directory listing: wrong order in smbd_dirptr_get_entry()?
Hi! For quite some time I'm trying to find what's going on with MSDFS referrals. Samba version is 4.19.6. We've global host msdfs = yes (the default anyway), and for a share in question, msdfs root = yes. testparam confirms the settings. There's a symlink created in the root dir of the share, which points to the same server but different path: dfstest =>

Samba-created files with POSIX ACLs gaining execute bit
These are the latests.. And the Why, Andrew already explain. Due to the mappings with windows acls. If the exec bit is missing, no windows programm will be allowed to start of a share. If i download an msi file to install and put it on a share, its not allowed to execute it. Which is exact what i want in my case. You might want to read

Extended attributes not working on mac
I?m not sure if this is related, but there was a regression a while back in handling resource forks in folder icons. It was supposed to be fixed in 4.10.13 but I don?t think it quite works yet and I haven?t had the time to test it further yet. -Perttu > On 30 May 2020, at 21.00, Martin Steiner / 3MF GmbH via samba <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: > > I changed the configuration

Extended attributes not working on mac
as i can see from the log files it is reading 60 bytes from the extended attributes but not from any other than DosStream.AFP_AfpInfo. All of the .com.apple.* attributes, especially DosStream.com.apple.metadata:_kMDItemUserTags are missing when listing the directory. And again - it tries to access a dotbar file which cannot exist with these settings. BTW, accessing kMDItemFinderComment works

Status of Windows Search Protocol support in Samba?
I've been trying to Google this but have not found any definitive answers. Does Samba currently support Windows Search Protocol[1]? I did find these lecture slides from a few years ago (five years?) but they don't tell me about the current status: https://sambaxp.org/archive_data/SambaXP2015-SLIDES/wed/track1/sambaxp2015-wed-track1-Noel_Power-WindowSearchProtocolAndSamba.pdf (by Noel

Extended attributes not working on mac
I changed the configuration and raised the log level, in my opion samba tries to access the non existent double files. Samba is now probably writing the data in a netatalk compliant way in the extended attributes of the file but is not reading it. new configuration: [Global] min protocol = SMB2 vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:metadata = stream fruit:resource = stream fruit:encoding

Samba-created files with POSIX ACLs gaining execute bit
Hi all, The part that I don’t understand is why the behavior is different when there are ACLs involved. Take the below example: # This share is chmod 777, [share1] path = /srv/share1 # mode is 0777, no ACLs readonly = no create mask = 0660 [share2] path = /srv/share2 # mode is 0770, ACLs readonly = no inherit acts = yes create mask = 0660 share1 acts exactly as expected — I get a 0660

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED on a directory I have permission to access
Hello, I am testing Samba 4.9.7 before we upgrade our 4.8 domain member server. I am running into a weird permission error with our test server. My home directory is NFS mounted. The problem comes from a mail directory in my home directory.  I can't access it over SMB/CIFS, it gives me a permission error. From another Linux host that has our home directories NFS mounted, I can access it
