Thanks for the example, Rowland. Does ldb work against remote servers as well? I thought it was only for local, file-based access. In general, I just wanted to use my Samba AD as an environment to learn more about writing software against using LDAP. There are a few applications I'm planning to develop, and I'd like to use actual LDAP so they could be applicable to Samba or Microsoft AD

In the past we had a little script which our users could run on their own from their linux account which created a samba user with their own uid/gid and set their password (via smbpasswd). Hello all, Have joined a new DC to an existing active directory consisting of a sole DC.  So, we now have two domain controllers, the original being ad.DOMAIN.intranet (192.168.0.17), and the new one being DOMAIN-ad.DOMAIN.intranet (192.168.0.11).  I want the new DC to become the FSMO role owner, so I followed the instructions here -

UNOFFICIAL Hi Today I demoted the temporary DC (Julius) on my network. The demotion failed. Failed to confirm we are not an RODC ... cannot find attribute msDS-isRODC So I shutdown Julius and forced the demotion. The domain seems stable until I tried LDAP authentication which fails.
