Symbolic links not visible on osx 10.10
Since I do not see my last messages in the samba mail archive (I replied myself), here's the last one I sent with some more information (so hopefully they arrive now for everybody?): I just found out this is not only happening on the osx clients by mounting the share on the server: All this below happens on an linux arch server mounting the own share: mount //ip.addr/Programs ./tmp -o

Symbolic links not visible on osx 10.10
Hi, I'm replying to this post (as I wasn't subscribed to the list until now). Is there any progress on this issue (not being able to see symbolic links as such on a SMB3_02 share mounted with macOS)? It looks to me like this is one of the last showstoppers left for samba being able to be a full replacement for netatalk, since vfs_fruit is otherwise doing a good job. Best Wishes,

No symlink support on SMB2 and SMB3?
Hello, I am using Samba version 4.2.0rc4-GIT-4701d74. When using a connection in protocol smb2 or smb3, the unix client says symlinks are not supported, for example: # mount //ip.addr/Programs ./tmp -o vers=3.0 # cd tmp # ln -s bla blub ln: failed to create symbolic link ?blub?: Operation not supported # mount //ip.addr/Programs on /mnt/tmp type cifs

Yes. I imagine that's why Andrew Bartlett commented: "There may be some good news in the future, as I've had one of the developers at iXSystems working with me on a proper fix, specifically for zfs. It might take a little while however." As things stand, I believe that domains provision correctly within the context of FreeNAS itself (i.e. through the webui). Hence, the comment

I believe that iXsystems recently patched Samba 4.6 in FreeNAS so that it can act as an AD DC. https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/23566 As is mentioned here: https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2017-June/209021.html I imagine that maybe a fix for vanilla FreeBSD is coming soon. As things stand, if you want to use FreeBSD as an AD DC on ZFS, I believe that FreeNAS is the only option. On Mon, Jul

I'm sorry. I probably should have linked their samba fork: https://github.com/freenas/samba You can look at the commits from around the time period of the bug report. It looks like quite a lot of work in ./python/samba/provision/ On Thu, Jul 6, 2017 at 2:50 AM, Rowland Penny via samba < samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: > On Wed, 5 Jul 2017 17:23:28 -0500 > Andrew Walker via samba

CFT: FreeBSD Package Base
With CFT version you chose to build, and package individual components such as sendmail with a port option. That does entirely solve the problem of being able to reinstall sendmail after the fact without a rebuild of the userland (base) port but perhaps base flavors could solve that problem assuming flavors could extend beyond python.
