Samba 4.9.4 drops group write permission on files (at file access time) with 'vfs objects' enabled

If you can’t add 'vfs objects’ without the default built-in module getting lost then how is that supposed to work at all? I’ve tried looking at the source code to see if there is

VFS shadowcopy2 with FeeBSD & ZFS
Hi, I have a FreeBSD 12.1 system with Samba 4.11.8 using ZFS and I want to get shadow copies working, however the clients (Windows 10) don't show anything in the 'previous versions' tab. I think it's doing something as it say 'working' for a short amount of time. Also if I crank up vfs debugging to 10 I get: [2020/10/05 16:50:03.879093, 10, pid=50572, effective(0, 0),

FreeBSD, Libmd5, samba 4.9.4 & "smbclient -L" (using password) -> core dump
I just noticed that smbclient from Samba 4.9.4 /built by myself) on FreeBSD 11.2 coredumps when called like this: smbclient -L <hostname> > % /liu/pkg/samba/4.9.4-liu/bin/smbclient -L filur00 > Enter username at AD.LIU.SE's password: > Abort (core dumped) … if it is linked against /usr/local/lib/libmd5.so (which is part of “libwww”). If I remove libmd5.so and recompile

Fix for CVE-2015-5299 denies access to ZFS snapshots due to overly strict condition checking
OS platform: FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE-p25 Filesystem: ZFS Samba version: upgraded from 4.1.17 to 4.1.22 Problem: I have been using the shadow_copy2 and zfsacl VFS modules to enable access control and the Previous Versions feature for Windows clients. With /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf configured this way (excerpt): vfs objects = shadow_copy2 zfsacl shadow:snapdir = .zfs/snapshot

Can one set the owner of a folder to BUILTIN\Administrators?
I've recently attempted to migrate some windows server files over to samba 4 hosted on a FreeNAS server. Using robocopy with the /copyall switch, I expected everything, including ACL's and ownership information to transfer over. For the most part they have. The one problem I've ran into however, is that I'm getting errors any time I or robocopy attempt to change the ownership to

Cannot access HOME folder after upgrading to 4.8 from 4.6
Hello- I upgraded Samba from 4.6 to 4.8 on a FreeBSD 11.2 server. After the upgrade, users cannot access the HOME folder share but they can access other shares just fine. I am using the RID backend on this member server that connects to Windows-based domain controllers. I apologize for the lengthy smb4.conf but here it is: #======================= Global Settings

Samba 4.1.11 crashes sporadically
Hi, I thought I should share this unusual behaiviour of samba 4.1.11. All of a sudden while I tried to delete a Folder via samba on a share it crashed. I was using Mac OSx's V 10.9.4 internal samba client (regular "CMD+K" mount via Finder). Server: [...] FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE-p7 #0: Tue Jul 8 06:37:44 UTC 2014 root at amd64-builder.daemonology.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC

Problems building FreeBSD file server
I have Googled my brains out without success, and I'm hoping that someone here can give me some tips. I'm trying to build a new file server, and I've concluded that ZFS is the technology that I want to use. After doing some research I settled on FreeBSD 10 as the platform to provide it. I have an existing AD domain (two Samba 4.1.4 DCs running on Debian) and the file server will be

Samba 3.4.2 with Solaris ZFS Snaphots
Hi, I'm trying to make samba working with Solaris ZFS Snaphots. Solaris 10 is running on a x64/X86 box which is both Samba (3.4.2) server and Zfs server. I created home/delaye filesystem with home zfs pool. # zpool list NAME SIZE USED AVAIL CAP HEALTH ALTROOT home 1.98G 2.60M 1.98G 0% ONLINE - home/delaye 2.47M 1.95G 1.66M /home/delaye

Trouble with banking software on Samba share
Hello list members! I joined this list on May 1st and I can see I have a lot to learn. Thanks to everyone - especially those *@samba.org folks. You are so appreciated. Background in my plea for help: I'm the IT guy for a family owned community bank in Southern Colorado. I am very tired of the limitations and security problems of Micro$oft and have committed to learning and using Linux

vfs objects
Does anyone know how to get vfs modules - specifically zfsacl and/or nfs4acl - with samba? When I didn’t find it in 16.04, 18.04 or 19.04 ubuntu versions I decided to look elsewhere - Launchpad - but it wasn’t in that build either. So I decided to build from source thinking that there must be an option for it during build time but the Samba build options page lists no such option. So, are these

VFS shadowcopy2 with FeeBSD & ZFS
We have: vfs objects = shadow_copy2 zfsacl (Actually, vfs objects = shadow_copy2 zfsacl fruit streams_xattr, but I wanted to point out the order of shadow_copy2 and zfsacl). To rule out shadow:format problems, I would create just one snapshot with a simple name and configure shadow:format accordingly. Also, is /public the mountpoint of the ZFS dataset? If not, then you might need

vfs objects - zfsacl
Looking to see if any one else is having this issue. Running 3.4.5 on solaris 10 with ZFS file system. When I add the vfs objects = zfsacl, Windows clients seem to fine but all my Mac OS X clients can no longer access folders on the share. They can mount the share fine but permissions are not being followed for Mac clients. "The folder "Name" could not be opened because you

Mapping SID>UID (and reverse)
Hi I have a new Samba 3.6.10 server running on Solaris 10. The server is a member of the local Active Directory (which I'll call "DOMAIN" in this email). Unix username resolution is via NIS. All domain users have NIS usernames as well.Winbind is running to allow SMBD to perform sid>uid mapping and I have setup idmap_nss. I am not using winbind in /etc/nsswitch.conf as NIS
