Samba Won't start after upgrading Operating system
Thanks for the response. I think  found and fixed the problem, but I need to do some more testing tomorrow. It seems that the "handle_name_resolve_order: WARNING: Ignoring invalid list value 'hosts'  for parameter 'name resolve order'" is not really a warning and it causes testparm to stop processing the smb.conf. I think that is also what caused the daemons to fail.

Samba Won't start after upgrading Operating system
Top posting... While I don't really see any details that indicate this is the problem, systemd-resolved causes the packaged 18.04 samba to fail to start [at least in a full AD setup.] That's because system has a full DNS resolver, and Samba also has it's own DNS resolver. When they both try to start on the same port, the first running wins [systemd] and Samba exits. Since you're

User and GRoup mapping
I have two servers running Samba, one as a Domain Controller one as a Member Server. Both are running Ubuntu 8.10 and running smbd, nmbd and winbindd using the tdb back end. I am having a problem understanding ID mapping. The mapping is not the same on both machines. On the Domain Controller > root at thelma:/etc/init.d# wbinfo -i 'ATLANTA\rob' > rob:*:1000:2003:Robert

Missing record in share-info.tdb
I may have a clue. I have two servers running Samba 3.2.3, one as a Domain Controller one as a Member Server. Both are running Ubuntu 8.10. smbd, nmbd and winbindd using the tdb back end are running on both. On the Member Server when I access the [Projects] share everything works as expected. When I access the [Windows] share I get prompted for a user name and password but no combination

Double user name
I have two samba servers running Ubuntu 10.04 Samba Version 3.4.7 One server acts as domain controller and stores user ids in a .tdb Somehow I've ended up with a duplicate user name. changing server role = standalone server to 'member server'
I am testing a Samba v4.1.3 instance on Ubuntu 14.04 prerelease. I set it up as a standalone server on a test network, and it was easy to set up and worked fine. Now I am trying to migrate it to a different network and join it to a Windows 2008 AD server. When I try to join it to the domain, I get this error: root at samba-4:/etc/samba# net ads join -U administrator Host is not configured as a

ks.test not working?
Hi, I am performing GEV analysis on temperature/precipitation data and want to use the ks.boot function but I am unsure of how to implement it using the pgev distribution. For example: ks.test(data, pgev, shape, location, scale) ks.boot(data,(distribution parameters?),alternative="pgev",nboots=1000) Any advice? Apologies in advance if I have used the wrong email address. Regards, Louise

Can R do rts (Regular Time Series) like S-Plus?
Dear readers, S-Plus have a rts function (Regular Time Series), which is used like so: fveks<-read.csv('http://louise.hoffman.googlepages.com/veks.csv',header=TRUE,sep=',') attach(fveks) acf(ts.intersect(rts(HC.f),rts(Ta.f),rts(GR.f),rts(W.f))) Warning the csv file is 750kB. Can the same be done in R? Lots of love =) Louise

Unable to start winbindd, Could not fetch our SID - did we join?
I've been searching this lists archives and using the Googles for two days now, and keep coming across the same messages from before 2012 with the errors I'm getting, so either I'm seeing something new, or I've missed something stupid. I've been following the HOWTOs here from Samba.org. In each case below, I uninstalled the provided Samba packages and built from source.

winbind requires restart after boot
I'm running samba 4.5.6 on Fedora 25 installed from packages as a member server in ad. After a reboot, 'id username' (where username is an AD account) returns nothing. A 'systemctl restart winbind' and voila! 'id username' shows what it should. I've been looking into the files in /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/ and have backed off. I tried adding a

R-help question
Hi there, I have subscribed to R-help but am not sure how to view or post questions? I think this is the right way. I am planning on doing a multivariate regression investigating the relationship between depression (a continuous variable) and social support variables (mostly continuous, some categorical) among older people. I have a number of demographic and health-related variables that I am

(no subject)
Hello I have been trying to figure out how to randomly select a number of records. I have a column "ID" which contains 16 individuals (numbered 1-16), each individual has a few hundred rows of GPS locations associated with it. I am trying to select a random sample of these individuals (with all their associated GPS locations) to run a kernel density analysis on, and need to repeat this

creating categorical frequency tables from continuous data
Hello, I am working with a dataset which essentially has only one column - a list of distances in metres, accurate to several decimal places. eg distance 1000 6403.124 1000 1414.214 1414.214 1000 I want to organise this into a frequency table, grouping into categories of 0 - 999, 1000 - 1999, 2000-2999 etc. I'd also like the rows where there are no data points in that category to
