What is needed to allow Network Browsing of the file server in Windows
I am using Samba as a simple file server but I cannot browse its shares
in Windows Explorer. I do not use SMB1. Am I missing a trick or is it
not possible without SMB1?
I am using ClearOS7 with the Centos7 4.10.4 samba package. My cut down
configs (with most of the shares removed) are:
[root at server ~]# testparm -s
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf

Winbindd runs interactively, fails as a daemon
Hi,
I have server which is joined to an AD DC but I am having problems
starting or keeping winbind running. If I reboot the server, it fails to
start. If I then start it with "winbindd -i" it runs. I can then
terminate it and run it as a service and it works for a while. At some
indeterminate point in the future it may fail again.
When trying to start it initially (before a winbindd

Shares stopped working for groups
Hi,
I have a ClearOS 7.8 system which is running
samba-4.10.4-11.el7_8.x86_64, and it upgraded to this just over a week
ago (probably not relevant). A couple of days ago all the group shares
failed. I discovered that if I switched them to the built-in group
"allusers" the share worked fine. It fails for any user-defined group
but it used to work. Samba is running as a PDC and the

Problem with Remote Announce
Hi,
I've been running Samba 3.5.18 on ClearOS 5.2 for a while now. I have a
server on its own LAN's (192.168.2.0/24 and 192.168.3.0/24) and an IPSec
VPN through to 192.168.10.0/24. The remote LAN is just one machine on
the other side of a router. I've been successfully seeing its netbios
name and I've been able to ping the remote PC by name and browse it and
vice versa. A few

Keyboard problems with VNC access
Hi,
I am pretty new to libvirt, but have succeeded in setting up two VM's,
Windows 10 and ClearOS (a Centos derivative) and they both have the same
issue. I have installed both of them with a UK English keyboard, but the
host machine is remote and in the US with a US locale. When I access
either through VNC (I've tried TightVNC and VNC-Viewer), a number of my
keys don't map

Win10 and NT mode: netlogon script seems does not run anymore.
[ Rowland, i know, i need to upgrade. ;-) ]
Some month ago, with a relative big bunch of fix&tweaks, i was able to put a
Win10 1903 client in join to a 'NT mode' Samba domain.
Now i'm trying to do the same with a 1909 version; all seems to work as
before, BUT netlogon script (defined in smb.conf with:
logon script = startup.bat
) simply seems does not run. No log event in

I have reviewed all the posts in this thread and I 'think' I know what
is going on and also answers a question I asked.
You have in your smb.conf:
unix password sync = Yes
This possibly means that you have a group in /etc/group called allusers
with the ID of 63000
I would replace the line with:
ldap password sync

Password change **apparently** failing in Windows 10 with 4.7.1
I have a server running 4.7.1 in PDC mode (NT4-style domain) and we've
noticed that when changing passwords now in Window10 the change happens
but Windows 10 comes back with a "username or password incorrect"
message. Logging off and logging on again shows that the password change
has, in fact, worked as the new password is required. Similarly logging
straight into the server
