Samba 3.5.6 pam problems
Hi, I've setup Samba 3.5.6 as a member server in a 2003R2 domain with a single dc, idmapping is by rfc2307 with a tdb backend for builtin accounts etc, I can list users and groups using wbinfo and I can create shares and access them from the windows server, files and folders owned by ad users show the correct user and group names so mapping appears to be working, I can su to ad accounts but I

winbind lookup errors
Hello Samba folks, I have recently begun seeing some disturbing behavior from winbind. Winbind will fail to look up users and groups. Examples: The machine is configured to use winbind as a nss module. "getent passwd <username>" will yield no results. "wbinfo -n <username>" will yield "Could not lookup name <username>" "wbinfo -g"

winbind service panics "randomly"
Hi Rowland, thank you for another quick reply. 1) I did all the changes on the smb.conf you suggested and restart samba-ad-dc on both DCs. 2) Changed file server log to 10 and rebooted it just because. 3) Winbind crashed. 3.1) I have a gut felling that if I leave it alone, it lasts longer. If I do a wbinfo -u it's ok, but if I go and check it often, it eventually crashes. Again, gut felling,

ntlm_auth: (pipe \PIPE\NETLOGON) has died or was never started (fd == -1)
I'm exeperiencing a strange ntlm_auth problem: I'm running two domain with a trust; the trusting one, (EUFEMIA with the PDC Beatrice) uses the WINS facility of the trusted one (LETTERE, PDC Alice). Users of EUFEMIA and LETTERE alike have a successful logon to Beatrice. LETTERE users do authenticate in Beatrice with ntlm_auth. EUFEMIA users do not: beatrice:/home# ntlm_auth --username

Problems after migration from samba 3.5.2 to samba 4.3.1
Well.... I know that this problem is very weird, but, does anyone know how to identify where the problem is?? My domain controler shows only groups... not users, and smbclient shows: Samba version 4.3.1 PID Username Group Machine Protocol Version ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 13570 -1 -1

wbinfo -t fails but other wbinfo and getent items work.
Problem: wbinfo -t fails. As long as it fails, I am unable to map sids to Group Names. I need this functionality for my application. I can use just about everyother function of wbinfo at least partially... Distro: Debian woody. Packages: ii samba 3.0.11-0woody1 a LanManager-like file and printer server fo ii samba-common 3.0.11-0woody1 Samba common files used by both the server a

\PIPE\NETLOGON (NT_STATUS_DOMAIN_CONTROLLER_NOT_FOUND)
Help, wbinfo -t fails with the error in subject, and getting sids of groups that aren't BUILTIN fail. Everything else seems to work. Note: I am not converting my kerberos tickets to krb4, is this necessary? (It used to work without it..but now it seems not to work.) I get no errors from kinit. all other wbinfo requests succeed with the exception of looking up the SIDS of groups that

Interdomain Trust, wbinfo works on both servers, getent doesn't work on one server
Hi I have a problem with an interdomain trust where on the PDC for DomainA, everything works perfectly. getent returns local and DomainB usernames. On the PDC for DomainB, it's DomainB works fine, but getent only returns local usernames and groups, it doesn't return the usernames or groups for DomainA. wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g work fine and return all DomainA's usernames and groups.

Samba 3.0.21b winbind crash
I'm using Samba 3.0.21b on SuSE 9.3 Pro (x86) with the binary RPMs from samba.org/suse.com (3.0.21b-1.1.2-SUSE-SL9.3) on a Domain Member Server in ADS mode with winbind against W2K3 SP1 AD servers and idmap uids/gids stored in a central OpenLDAP directory. Unfortunately, winbind gives me a hard time and reproducibly dies with a PANIC on a "wbinfo -g", although I think I've

need some assistance - Samba 3.09 on FreeBSD 4.5
Hello, I've been able to get Samba up and running, it joins the ADS domain fine. It appears in the network browser on our Windows machines but when anyone attempts to access a restricted share it fails to authenticate them. I say restricted because if anyone accesses an open to everyone share it works. I'm trying to get the entire thing setup so that the Samba server is just a

Winbind fails to connect to \PIPE\NETLOGON with 3.0.10 and 3.0.9
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Joining a mixed 2000 domain worked correctly for Samba 3.0.2a. After upgrading to either samba 3.0.9 or 3.0.10, the net ads join command completes successfully, and wbinfo -u returns a list of users, but any attempt to actually authenticate those users fails with NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE. wbinfo -t also does not work, and produces the log file

winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users". On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group. Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo -g and getent group. When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo -g, I got the results

Could not write response[27830:AUTH_CRAP] to client: Broken pipe
Hello, We're using FreeRADIUS and winbind to authenticate access to our wireless network. The problem we're experiencing is that the secure channel between the wbind daemon and the DC appears to be unstable. The outages last for about 30 seconds and coincide with a series of "...Broken pipe" messages in the log.winbindd file (see below). Is this a samba fault or an DC issue,

Samba 3.0.26a, windows 2k3 r2 SFU, problems with auth/nss
Dear samba list, For some time we've had servers connecting to a w2k3 r2 server via ADS setup. Wins was working fine and users were able to authenticate. Recently we've added a GFS like system. This required getting the UID/GID's unified. Suggestions were made on the samba IRC channel to install SFU on the PDC. I'm receiving some very strange output. Usernames/pwd have

FW: getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I posted my original post to FreeBSD-questions@freebsd.org and since then have had a running dialog with another poster. It now seems I am having trouble with the NSSWITCH function. I am now reporting back to the Samba list in hopes someone can help me out at this point. Can anyone help me out here? ~Doug -----Original Message----- Sent: Friday, September 16, 2005 12:48 PM To: 'Dan
