rails story runner returning a nil response code
Has anyone noticed any problems with the Rails story runner returning a response code of "0" when doing get/post/etc methods? I just grabbed the latest rails/rspec and just started noticing this problem, http://pastie.caboo.se/117497 Regular controller specs pass as expected. -- Josh Knowles phone: 509-979-1593 email: joshknowles at gmail.com web: http://joshknowles.com

Renaming RailsExample to RailsExampleGroup
Fyi, I made the following renames: * RailsExample -> RailsExampleGroup * FunctionalExample -> FunctionalExampleGroup * ControllerExample -> ControllerExampleGroup * ViewExample -> ViewExampleGroup * HelperExample -> HelperExampleGroup * ModelExample -> ModelExampleGroup This was done to keep the naming consistent with ExampleGroup.

Selenium/Watir usage along side Webrat in story testing
This is related to Selenium/Watir usage along side webrat in story testing. MHS_Testing and Rspec-ui provide some great help for testing through frameworks like Selenium/Watir. But there is something missing, Webrat has changed the landscape somewhat with Acceptance Tests/Story Driven development. Now I have a choice: 1. Tests and rails process run as one test process (Webrat) 2. Use

session data and user stories
hello there, i have been trying my hand at this rbehave material, specifically in terms of integration testing a rails application, and i am curious about the most friendly way to deal with session data. currently, the only way i have found to simulate a session is to open a session and refer to everything afterward via the @session variable stored after open_session. it seems to be workable,

View Specs vs. Stories
Do RSpec stories make view specs redundant? Does anybody spec their views *and* use stories, and if so how? Any views (no pun intended) appreciated. ~ Thanks Mark -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

How do I call a controller from a model, console, or outside of rails?
Hi, I''m writing yet another cms and I need to capture the html output of a rendered template including helpers, etc from within my rails app. I plan to use backgroundrb, and I need to be able to capture the output of "pages.browse()" where pages is my controller. I need to pass in the id param. How can I do this besides using Net::HTTP? Using Net::HTTP hangs when

integration tests - 1.1
I?m using the new 1.1 integration test facility? I?m trying to write a test that sees if a controller redirects to the correct place and preserves the query string. Here?s the code: class LoginRedirectTest < ActionController::IntegrationTest def test_non_admin_auth request_uri = "/datafeed/event/report?blah=blah" get(request_uri) follow_redirect!

Story problem if parenthesis used in Given, When, Then or And
VERSION: rspec rails plugin current edge version XP/Cygwin on XP Hi, I hit this when trying to use parenthesis in my stories ... (that''ll teach me!). If a scenario looks like the following: Story "User has story with parentheses", %{ As a user I want parenthesis So that ... well I just do }, :type => RailsStory do Scenario "the Given has parentheses" do

Rails integration tests without stories
I''m looking to drive the development of a rails app that does nothing but serve a JSON API. All of the models are well tested elsewhere, so I needn''t worry about that. My only immediate goal is to be able to fire off requests to a path and check the returned JSON. I''ve tried a number of methods for this today, without being particularly enthused about any of them. I

assert_redirected_to not working as expected
I''ve installed the "acts_as_authenticated" plugin and made some modifications to the controller (app/controllers/account_controller.rb) "signup" module as follows: === def signup @page_title = ''Create Account'' @user = User.new(@params[:user]) if request.post? if @user.save session[:user] = User.authenticate(@user.login,

RailsStory - lessons learned
After trying RailsStory for a few days, I have learned: 1. Rails testing support does not serve up static pages 2. RailsStory masks errors generated by the app under test 3. The masked errors are available in log/test 4. I should read log/test more often See http://pastie.caboo.se/107876 for an example for points 2 and 3 The welcome controller fails when the HTTP_USER_AGENT is missing.

second assert_tag failling in rails integration test
Hi all, I''m fairly new to rails and ruby, but I''ve come across an interesting glitch and I''m not sure whether I''ve just got something wrong with my assumptions or if it really is an error in the underlying framework... I''ve created a bare-bones set of tests to show you where the problem is. What follows are the steps I went through to reproduce the

ZenTest autotest now handles RSpec, yay!
Josh Knowles http://joshknowles.com/ just let me know that ZenTest Autotest 3.50 now handles your RSpec specs. http://blog.zenspider.com/archives/2007/04/zentest_version_350_has_been_released.html That''s a great news. Josh also shared with me a quick hack to make autotest work with only the RSpec plugin installed. Add the following into your ~/.autotest file

Uninitialized constant in integration test
I am seeing weird issues when trying to create integration tests. Here is a very simple example of something that is failing. The assert_redirected_to, and other methods, fail with this or similar exceptions. I have tried requiring both ''application'' and ''listings_controller'', but neither solves this problem, although the exception changes. Anybody know

using rake db:fixtures:load with rspec fixtures
Hi, I''m new to rspec. I have some fixtures in /spec/fixtures. If they were in /test/fixtures they could be loaded with rake db:fixtures:load. Is there any way other than a symlink to load my rspec fixtures into the database with rake? Or, can I cause rspec to load the fixtures from /test/fixtures? Thanks, Paul

Object.stubs doesn''t seem to work.
Hi I''m using Mocha 0.5.3 and I want to stub out a call to Time.now, just like the example in the post http://blog.floehopper.org/articles/2007/06/08/mocha-0-5-released However, trying it in irb gets me the following error: >> require ''mocha'' => true >> Time.stubs(:now).returns(Time.parse(''Thu Feb 01 00:00:00 UTC 2007'')) NoMethodError:

a better "should have valid associations"
This is pretty much the same as last time around, if you recall. Thanks to Wilson for converting to the new form. I''ve added a few lines. Basically, it iterates over your model associations and does two things. - First, just try to call the association. Usually fixes speeling erors or other such silliness. - Second, try to find a record with an :include on the association. This

How to write a test for validates_uniqueness_of
Hi, I have a spec it "should have a unique username " I have a code: validates_uniqueness_of :user_name Now, I don''t know how to test this code. In order to test this, do I need to run `save`? For example, @user = User.create(:username => "mike") @another = User.create(:username => "mike") @another.save.should be_false This messes up test
