Fwd: Migrating server
Hi Andrew,
I've setup a new Samba 4 box (sam4dc) on Ubuntu 14.04 with Samba 4.3.11. I
have the following
Just to clarify, sam3DC is the current DC with samba 3.6.3
smb.conf
[global]
workgroup = STEST
netbios name = Sam4DC
password server = Sam3DC (This is the current DC)
security = user
resolv.conf
nameserver = 192.168.10.1 (IP of Sam3DC)
I can ping the sam3dc from the

Migrating server
Hi,
We have an upcoming project to migrate Samba first into a new Hardware then
the AD migration. Our hardware is old and we need to migrate.
Please allow me to explain the current setup
- Server : Physical
- OS: Ubuntu 14.04 running Samba 4.0.0. Even though it is running Samba 4,
we are using configs from Samba3.
- Roles: DC, DNS , DHCP and Shares
- Database: TDB

Fwd: Migrating server
Hi Andrew,
I can't shutdown the old samba box as it will still be hosting the shares.
Can I do any of the following?
Would it make sense for me to migrate the backend to LDAP ?
Or following your first comment, can I setup rysnc every 5 minutes to
replicate data. You're right it is a migration path but I can't migrate
until this works in the test environment
Thank you

Winbind and nss-ldap
Hi Guys,
Have some issues with winbind and nss-ldap in LDAP based NT4 BDC/fileserver
The DC has the LDAP server role and the BDC connects to it for
authentication.
smb.conf of the BDC
netbios name = TRAC5
local master = no
domain master = no
preferred master = no
domain logons = no
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://trac15.ste.com
ldap admin dn = cn=admin,dc=ste,d=com

Fwd: Migrating server
Hi Andrew,
I was able to domain join the server to the domain, had to add in
client ipc signing = auto
security = domain
Then it comes up with Joined "sam4Dc" to the domain. What does that step
actually do?
Coming back to your comments.
At a point in time both servers will be DCs. The plan is that after that
point Samba3 box will cease to become a DC and act as a file server only.
So

Migrating: tdb to ldap (Samba Classic)
Guys,
We have a Samba 4 PDC with TDB backend. We're now trying to a BDC so we
need to migrate from TDB to LDAP . I've read the Samba documentation which
says using tdb in both servers will cause issues. So the question is how do
we migrate from TDB to LDAP in the PDC. The setup we are going for is each
DC will have LDAP setup. The LDAP servers will then be replicated. Reading

Can a router be a local master browser in a NT domain?
Can a router between two subnets (call it A and B) be the local master
browser of the one subnet (net A) in a NT domain, when the Domain Master
Browser (as well as PDC and BDC) are located in the other subnet (B)?
Will say, does the Domain Master Browser of a NT domain accept a Local
Master Browser in the same subnet (as the router is accessed from B via
the interface ethB)?
The reason for my

Samba Domain server authentication
Hi,
The setup used to work on a when both file and AD were in the same box.
We're trying to separate them.
The 'net rpc testjoin' gives: Join to "LIN" is ok.
The wbinfo -u does list all users with "LIN\username". The getent passwd
lists the LIN\username with all the attrributes". This is after putting in
your suggestions about winbind trusted domains only and

Hi All,
We have classic PDC with an ldap backened. We're trying to add some member
servers which will act as print and file servers. We've joined the member
servers to the domain using net rpc join. The problem we are having is we
are seeing the following when using
pdbedit -L -v -d10 from a member server

Trust problems after upgrade from 3.5 to 3.6
Hello.
My setup:
_ one Samba 3.5 domain (XXXXXXXX), with a PDC and a BDC, both running
FreeBSD;
_ one AD domain (YYYYYYYY) running on two Windows 2003 DCs;
_ bidirectional trust between the two domains.
Everything used to work until I moved the PDC from Samba 3.5 (EOL'ed) to
3.6; now, users from domain YYYYYYYY cannot access the PDC's shares.
I used to have in smb.conf:

Samba+LDAP problem after replacing BDC
Hi,
I had a working enviroment of one PDC and several BDCs. The PDC is Samba
version 3.6.6. After replacing of one BDC, I've started to get the

Migrating, Upgrading & Testing Samba 4 PDC/BDC
Hi folks,
I've been tasked with a migration of our servers and, as the subject implies, part of it involves a PDC and BDC that were set up before my time. However, I'm trying to accomplish a little bit more to give myself, the sysadmin, a little bit more automation capability:
ยท Migrate the PDC and BDC both to new servers (part of this I've already done with copying

canonicalize_connect_path failed for service
Hi Rowland,
We did the classicupgrade. Post the classicupgrade, we added a Windows
2008R2 server and dcpomo'd it. The original Samba box (classic DC) was
where we did the classicupgrade. Did you mean that we need to shut that
box down? Leaving a Windows DC (FSMO?) and Samba member server? Sorry I
was not aware of this step. What if we hadn't added a Windows 08 box?
