idmap problems
Many thanks Rowland. Yes, I don't understand idmaps, but I _think_ I'm getting it. I have added the gid of 60002 for Domain Admins and undertaken some 'chgrp' tasks. I've now got a domain member with shares that presents the correct ownership. All looks good. I'm still slightly confused why I have two ranges within my member smb.conf: idmap config * : backend = tdb

Samba domain users AWOL from Samba file server.
Unfortunately, the the Ubuntu 18.04 samba-tool package doesn't have "user show" as an option. The Windows ADUC tool shows user1 uidNumber =10001, user2 uidNumber=10002, user3 uidNumber =10003, and user4 uidNumber=10004 Here are the getent command results on the file server/ domain member: *admin at fsvr0:~$ getent passwd user1* hq-user1:*:11103:10513::/home/lan/user1:/bin/bash

Ok, you are completely right. Here are the real numbers with changed user names: drwx------ 43 DOM\user1        DOM\domain-user  4096 Jan 10 08:00 user1 drwx------   5 DOM\user2        DOM\domain-user  4096 Jan 11 08:13 user2 drwx------ 92 DOM\user3        DOM\domain-user   4096 Jan 16 08:39 user3 drwx------   3        133265        DOM\domain-user   4096 Sep  7 2015 user4 drwx------   7

idmap limit?
Hi, no, that's my fault. I changed the UIDs and user names in my "ls -l" to unpersonalized/example data for my mail and didn't think about putting these values into the range. A better unpersonalized data example would look like: ---------- drwx------ 43 DOM\user1        DOM\group  4096 Jan 10 08:00 user1 drwx------   5 DOM\user2        DOM\group  4096 Jan 11 08:13 user2

XP is unable to write to samba shares - Valid users?
I have a client with a linux server with samba installed and I've created users using the smbpasswd command (user1,user2,user3...) but when I go to the XP machines they can see the different shares but are unable to write to the folders or create additional folders based on their user1 and password. I want them to validate themselves to the linux server so that if their domain goes down they

Samba domain users AWOL from Samba file server.
Using samba-tool on my samba DC, I created several users. On my separate samba file server, joined to the domain, all the users are listed as belonging to Domain Users ( getent group "Domain Users"). However, several domain users are missing from the passwd database on the file server (i.e., nothing returned when I run getent passwd user3). Why would that be? Each user has its own

good solution for "automount" homes
All, On our main file server, all our home directorys are automount points. So /home isn't a real filesystem area, it points to a bunch of different home areas based on the auto.direct table. Example: /home/user1 mounts from --> /export/home1/user1 /home/user2 mounts from --> /export/home2/user2 /home/user3 mounts from --> /export/home2/user3 /home/user4 mounts from -->

Is that possible to create profiles shares into group structure?
Hi. I'm using Samba + OpenLDAP. Samba version 3.4.9. Everything is working fine. But I would like to put the roaming user profiles in a directory structure considering the group of the users. For example, for now I have: /home/company/profiles/user1 /home/company/profiles/user2 /home/company/profiles/user3 And I would like to use: /home/company/profiles/financial/user1

idmap limit?
Hi, we are running a file server as member server of a windows 2012 domain. Now we are facing the problem, that some UIDs are not mapped to the user names by the running winbindd process. This results in "nobody" usernames for nfs shares mounted by other clients. When doing an "ls -l" in the homes directory on the member server (file server), the list looks like:

How to hide shares for users that have no rights
Good morning. I am using samba 3.0 on RedHat Linux 9.0 and Linux machine is having lot of users and groups . I am trying to solve a problem. I have created, for example, 10 shares ( each share is having different valid users and groups ) and I can access only 4 of them (I have rights to read or write only for 4 shares). Well, is it possible to hide to my browsing the 6 shares that I can not
