No, you can have your.primayDNSdomain.tld and have REALM = SOMEREALM.TLD
Its not obligated to have REALM the same as the DnsDomain.

[4.2.14-Debian] Smbd not listening on 192.168.0.x on cold start
So it looks like the init script in the Samba package in the Debian

[4.2.14-Debian] Smbd not listening on 192.168.0.x on cold start
Hai,
First he had problems with the suspend mode.
See samba list subject : [Samba] Upgraded > Samba no longer listening on 192.168.0.x
That got fixed, without changing any startup script, but by adding the interfaces line to smb.conf
Now this one, ( sorry but winfried not attacking you, im attacting nobody )
And yes, that fix was from me to add that line, but not knowing you would hit the

getent not showing domain users and groups with winbind but works with sssd
Hai,
If you read the post on the debian bug list.
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=909465
You wil seen the workaround also, thats tested and works.
And I also suggest you adjest the startup order and to adjust your systemd settings is shown here.
Use : systemct edit name_of_service.service
This creates and override file in /etc/systemd/system/servicename.d/override.conf

Failed to create BUILTIN\Guests group NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED! Can Winbind allocate gids?
hi everyone,
I believe a resolution is there -
https://access.redhat.com/solutions/4367771
But what I'm hoping for is an expert would comment how would this apply
to Samba with LDAP backend?
many thanks, L.

OK, it looks like you are trying to set up a standalone server with
guest access, I suggest you read this wiki page:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_a_Standalone_Server
You do not need most of the parameters you have added to smb.conf,

4.9.x -> 4.10.x : any major things to consider?
Hai Stefan,
Yes, i do recommend the setup from 4.9 to 4.10 first.
If you plan is to upgrade to buster.
1) on stretch, update samba to 4.10
2) Change apt sources do buster, * your now also able to add buster-samba411 of my repo.
3) apt-get dist upgrade --autoremove --purge
And you able to upgrade to buster and samba 4.11.
Do note, i should be possible to to it also from 4.9 to 4.11, but

yes, I read

Are there any particular things to consider when upgrading from 4.9.x to
4.10.x ?
Talking of 2 DCs and 2 DMs here, debian-based.
I assume it's better to only do the step to 4.10.x first and not to 4.11.x ?
At first the DMs, then one DC ... ?
thanks for any

[4.2.14-Debian] Smbd not listening on 192.168.0.x on cold start
Hai,
There is nothing wrong with the debian script.
If it does not work, ( like this one ), failing to start at boot time.
The make the change i suggested, one of these 2 wil fix it.
There are few know things, these involve these settings.
interfaces = 192.168.0.1 127.0.0.1
Or
interfaces = eth0 lo
and
bind interfaces only = yes
1) smb.conf: use "bind interfaces
