Adding RFC2307 attributes to an existing Win2003 AD domain?
Running Samba 4.0.9, we have added a pair of Samba4 domain controllers to an existing Win2003 domain. How do we determine whether RFC2037 attributes already exist in the domain? And how would we go about adding them to an already existing domain?

Can only access new SAMBA fileshare from Windows as privileged user SAMDOM/Administrator, not as an ordinary user.
Cheers, that fixed it! :O) So, if I may summarise what we have just discussed. 1) All newly created samba users need to have the uidNumber attribute set to a unique value (within the range specified in smb.conf for SAMDOM) when using ad backend with RFC2307. 2) All new groups need to have the gidNumber set to a unique value (within the range specified in smb.conf for SAMDOM) when using ad

GPO / Sysvol problems
So, I'm seeing some very odd behavior. I may have multiple issues - so I'm simply starting holding the thread of the problem and working my way back. So, the root symptom I'm having is that a GPO isn't applying correctly. [Roaming profiles namely.] I have two DC's. I change the GPO on one DC and rsync the update to the other DC. I can see that the files get updated. Yet when

rsync'ing samba shares
I know this has come up a bit in the past, but consider this situation: Two Samba4 DC's - and I want to "mirror" the data shares to the "backup" DC in case we lose the primary DC and it's file shares. [A cheap, dirty, poor-mans semi-CTDB. How did you ever guess that Red Green was helping me?!] The easiest way is probably rsync'ing the data. However, will that

DC disaster recovery
So, I'm generally running my DC's in VM's on Xen [XCP-NG]. And I'm considering recovery from different disaster situations - say a crashed/corrupt DC. Or hardware failure. Yes, I could run a second VM with a second DC. But unless I setup another XCP server and put the VM on that - the biggest threat to the current VM/DC is the hardware it's running on. So, it really

GPO / Sysvol problems
So, some updates. I started that email a couple of hours ago - but suddenly, without changing a thing, the test client/station is suddenly now getting the correct GPO details. Yet, I've not synced the sysvol or done anything to change or update the GPO on either DC. See inline... Setting up new samba-ac-dc on Ubuntu 18.04 - KDC not FOUND
I have been running a small domain for years. I finally decided to move the domain to ad. I am also upgrading the server from Ubuntu i6.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS I installed the new server on a new RAID array and loaded the Ubuntu LAMP stack. I installed samba. I have gone through a few tutorials which offer differing recommendation on some things. All were based on either Debian or Ubuntu. I

RSAT Hang
So, I setup Samba on Ubuntu 18.04, using the packaged Samba version. [Thanks Rowland/Louis et al.] I'm doing some testing/tinkering using FreeNAS as a share, using the AD as the authentication back-end. As part of that process, you need to add a computer account and change some security settings. I setup RSAT and can see the AD tree, and add users etc. When I try to switch to advanced view

Dovecot vs MBox
I'm still in the "what's wrong" stage of figuring out what's going on. But I've got a mail user who isn't getting new messages. Postfix accepts it and drops it in the users mbox. [This is verified. If I tail the Mbox, I can see the new messages.] "Mail" will see the messages too. But dovecot doesn't seem to know they exist. I don't think the MBox

Samba 4 two DCs no matching UID/GID
Thanks for your answer and time you offer for me. That makes it a bit clearer. I searched the web and found that rsat needs to have the nis tools installed. Does it create Unix uid/gid automatically then? Without rfc2307 information it makes no sense to me to have a *nix machine for file services and another one for backup purposes, when uid and gid are not same (due to preserve acls). And for

smb.conf for Windows clients
So, I'm trying to paw through the long set of smb.conf options - and it's rather daunting. I'm wondering what smb.conf options are most important/appropriate/common for mostly Windows XP/7/(possibly v8) clients. Namespace problem? duplicated folders...
I'm sure this is related to name-spaces, but for some reason [brain damage perhaps? :) ] I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. In TBird, for example, I have a folder tree that looks like this Inbox -| Folder-A Folder-B Folder-C Folder-A Folder-B Folder-C And Folder-A, Folder-B, Folder-C are the same folders, just shown twice. [In two different hierarchies.] I'm using

Promoting a DC
So, I'm wondering if anyone has a "howto" on promoting a non-master DC to FSMO/Operation master and making it the Primary DC? [I don't see it in the Wiki and searching doesn't produce anything for me.] In my particular case, I have a couple of test DC's I've setup. Rather than tear them down, I might like to just move them into production/final testing and then
