Samba, IPv6, turning off NetBT and Network discovery
Hi, I hope this hasn't already been discussed to death, but I didn't find the answer through Google. In short, my question is: how can I advertise a Samba server through UPnP/Network Discovery? I'm currently using Samba 3.2.6, but should be able to upgrade if needed. I am trying to build an IPv6-only network, for now just for testing purposes. The problem I am having is that

Any work on Samba service discovery in workgroups?
I'm not so up-to-date in Samba development progress, and I have a question. Is anyone now working in Samba service discovery on workgroup networks (without DC or AD)? I recently wrote xllmnrd, an IPv6 LLMNR responder daemon so as to make Samba and other local neighbor servers accessible on IPv6 by their host names but it hasn't solved the problem that Samba servers don't appear on

winbind/idmap/AD problem?
Hi, I'm running 3.0.28a on Ubuntu 8.04 (their package). I've got security = ads and idmap backend = ad (smb.conf is posted below). I'm using libnss-ldap and have ldap in nsswitch.conf (also posted below) and ldap connected to the AD server. I have the drive mounted using acl and xattr_user options in fstab (acl is installed). I can connect to the share, I see in the logs that

Samba4 computers not on W10 Network
My Samba4 computers (DC's & member server) are not shown within W10 File Explorer Network. Only the other workstations appear. I believe this is due to smb1 being depreciated. All the folder redirection still works, gpo, etc. Domain users can log in. What do I need to adjust so these machines appear in smb2? (I know this has been talked about before sorry.) -- Thank you. Detect version of smb being employed
FreeBSD 12 Samba 4.8.12 Samba is not showing up on my Win 10 PRO machine. I can access the shares if I use the machines hostname or IP, though. How can I determine what version of ?smb? is being used? I have set ?client max protocol = SMB3? in the config file; however, I am not sure if it is being used. Thanks! -- Gerard -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was

Make new server the "master"
Apparently I missed a step somewhere! On DC01 /etc/systemd/resolved.conf says [Resolve] #DNS= #FallbackDNS= #Domains= #LLMNR=no #MulticastDNS=no #DNSSEC=no #DNSOverTLS=no #Cache=yes #DNSStubListener=yes #ReadEtcHosts=yes On DC02 it reads [Resolve] DNS=8.8.8.8 FallbackDNS=8.8.4.4 #Domains= #LLMNR=no #MulticastDNS=no DNSSEC=no #DNSOverTLS=no #Cache=yes #DNSStubListener=yes #ReadEtcHosts=yes So

That is because.. Your not sending the DOMAIN\username but COMPUTER\username, so access denied. I know its something like that in the backgrond, but i dont code "Windows" ;-) So, this is the only part i use: net use g: \\server.fqdn.tld\share /persistent:yes /user:NT4DOM\%username% net use k: \\server.fqdn.tld\share /persistent:yes /user:ADDOM\%username% Stop using :

Str info. Thanks for helping
It looks from str(SA) that Response IPS1 is a data.frame of class "anova", which probably cannot be coerced to vector. Maybe you can use unlist() instead of as.vector() Or something like SA[["Response IPS1"]]["as.factor(WSD)",] ## to select the first row only, even maybe with unlist() Without a better REPRODUCIBLE example, I cannot tell more (maybe some others

write only permissions
Hi, We've just put in a Samba fileserver to replace our windows box for our School District and it seems to be working great. I have a question about defining some specific permissions though. We set up 'Drop boxes' for teachers that kids can drag files into, but they don't have read permission so they can't read each others submitted work. Here's what is looks like on

No, the point is.. User verfications Computer verification And Authentication. These are 3 different things. The differences, in terms. NTLM KERBEROS DNS-lookups and how this all works together.
