Getting DFSR working after Samba was demoted (using dfsrmig)
Hi, I have a Samba server with an NT4 domain and want to end up with a Windows Server 2016-only Active Directory. As you've told me here before, I need a WS 2008 R2 as an intermediary. So right now I'm trying to get a healthy domain at the 2008 R2 domain level first. So don't worry about the WS 2016 for now. Most of it already works: I can do a classicmigrate to AD, then join the

Samba DC: How to verify proper functioning
Hello Please advise some ways to verify that my newly created samba DC (holding no FSMO roles) is functioning properly from standpoint of Windows Server DC and Windows clients. So far I tried to run "dcdiag" command. Can you please look at following command output and tell me is everything OK there? Is there other ways to check if DC works well?

[Samba 4.5] Very slow LDAP Queries (almost unusable), performance tunning ?
Dear users, We are facing to a big latency issue regarding the LDAP Server (both encrypted & plain). We have a Zarafa mail server which makes a lot of queries and puts a samba process to 100% usage. This latency makes the mail server unusable.. The mail server was previously on OpenLDAP and there was not performance issues. A simple LDAP query can take up to 25 sec to perform !! We

No, you have to do that manualy, or look the the samba4 ADS script for kopano ( or zarafa ) But I mostly follow the documentation.   And when i run : time ldbsearch -H /var/lib/samba/private/sam.ldb -s base -b @INDEXLIST .... real    0m0.230s user    0m0.184s sys     0m0.044s   so if yours take more that 20 sec there is something very wrong. I suggest check you samba AD database and

high load printing with 3.2.15
Hi, I am still struggling with the printing in a AD2008 R2 environment I changed to 3.2.15 by now. Still very slow, I am running on solaris 10. Not sure if my clients are so chatty by now but it is really killing any performance. Using truss I see loads of: 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE640) = 0 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE150) = 0 19702: fcntl(17,

ms-rpc dynamic port range
Hi everyone, According to the samba wiki page [1], samba ms-rpc dynamic port range is 1024-5000, which looks mostly coherent with a quick tcpdump analysis. However it seems like there are also some connection in the upper range or MS-RPC 49152-65535. It seems that the lower range would be for AD2003 according to kb832017, and that the upper range would be for AD2008 and up [2]. So my

My dovecot works fine against Active Directory 2003, but not against AD2008
Fran - thanks for your reply. I'm cc'ing you directly on this as well as posting to the list as I'm not sure how often you check the list and I'm down to hanging by my last fingernail on this project. I have some preliminary questions interspersed below. Thanks, --Mark -----Original Message----- > Subject: Re: My dovecot works fine against Active Directory 2003, but not >

[Samba 4.5] Very slow LDAP Queries (almost unusable), performance tunning ?
Zarafa is not on the same server as Samba We only have 2 AD/DC Samba 4.5 (CentOS 7) and we put required indexes on LDAP . Arround 1000 mailboxes but not all are simultaneously in use (approx 1/3 in use). MTA is postfix (and is still connected to Samba AD, this one is not causing the issue). As a workarround, we currently deployed a synchronization connector from AD to OpenLDAP. It solves the

[Samba 4.5] Very slow LDAP Queries (almost unusable), performance tunning ?
Are use using zarafaAccount=1 withing the search filters? I use this things like this : (&(objectClass=person)(zarafaAccount=1)(|(mail=%s)(otherMailbox=%s))) Or for groups. (&(objectclass=group)(zarafaAccount=1)(|(mail=%s)(otherMailbox=%s))) That helps a lot. ! If you switch to kopano beware to change the SCHEMA and filters zarafaAccount changed to kopanoAccount Greetz. Thank you for your message Andrew. Then .. Waiting for this improvement... :-) Indexes seem correct to me. But I'm not sure at 100% because I cannot find clear explanation regarding the searchFlags attribute value .. 1, 2, ... ? Maybe you have one ? Hi,   I talked to Zarafa (Kopano now) support and they acknowledge that their product in combination with Samba does not scale welland is only suitable for what they call smaller setups.     Met Vriendelijke Groet, Kind Regards, Salutations,     Bart Coninckx Bits 'n Tricks BVBA   Hoge Mierdse Heide 182 2360 Oud-Turnhout tel. +32 14 480 820 gsm +32 478 88 33 08 info at bitsandtricks.com

Registry backend changes with CTDB not noticed by other nodes?
Hi! I'm working on a 2-node ctdb-clustered Samba. I'm almost there (hope so), but Samba doesn't seem to notice the modified registry that is distributed with ctdb. On a single node the registry is working. CTDB picks up changes, including the registry, and they are synced to the other node (verified with net conf addshare/delshare and tdbdump on /var/ctdb/persistent/registry*). The
