Changes to Folder Redirection
So, what is the difference between "Using Group Policy Folder Redirection" and "Using a Group Policy Preference"? Is it an either/or and _NOT both_ scenario? Clearly the ". . . Policy Preference" is editing the registry settings of each workstation with a GPO. Something the " . . . Policy Folder Redirection" does not do. Is not "Using a Group

Changes to Folder Redirection
I am having some issues that I believe might be related to folder redirection that has prompted me to review my folder redirection GPO settings. On the "Configuring Windows Profile Folder Redirections" page of the Samba WIKI I find an 'information box' that says, /"//Windows does not support dynamically-generated user home folders provided by the Samba [homes] section.

Changes to Folder Redirection
Hai Bob, Always.. Pretty buzzy at the office atm, so thats why i have not much around, but i had a look. If everything is setup correctly. Using Group Policy Folder Redirection, is also the one i use and you should use. Are you using it like this. \\hostname.internal.domain.tld\users\%USERNAME%\Desktop If i look at this. ( on the wiki ) On the Settings tab: Unselect Grant the user

linux clients sharing same home directory as W clients
I know others have done this in the past but I still have this simple basic question. Every time I begin to look into adding a linux client to my samba4 based domain system I get confused. How my linux client authenticates does not matter to me, at the moment. My question is this, can linux clients (via the file share access method of choice, sssd, cifs, sshfs, etc.) access the same

userou= question
Yes, thank you for the guidance. Regarding "*You do not put the users password here (if that is what you are trying to do): --password=PASSWORD1*" My experience has been this, no matter where I put "--password=" in the string, after the "user" as the manpage suggests or the end. When I run the create string I am asked for a "New Password:' and then

Disable AD checking per share in smb.conf [sec=unclassified]
Hi, Is it possible to have non-authenticating shares on an server with security=ADS ? I have a RHEL server, with Centrify Express, and joined to a domain, but I would like to have a samba share that doesn't request a username/password for machines not on the domain. When I have a plain windows XP machine (not on the domain) attempt to connect, I get asked for a username/password. Is

Troubleshooting help?
Thank you Rowland! I guess that's part of my confusion, I'm not sure how to best debug where Centrify ends and Samba begins. But if these log.smbd errors indicate Centrify vice Samba, I'm good with that. My global smb.conf is (didn't bother with the commented out stuff): [global] security = ADS realm = <our domain name> workgroup = <our workgroup name> netbios name =

user profil wipe in a samba 4 AD domain
OK for the local profiles. I got both of them one call joe and the other domain.joe. Saw it, no problem about that. I copied the data from local to domain one. The thing is that after few days the domain.joe was emptied. The joe did stay the same. And I do not get why the domain.joe got blanked (all data gone) Cheers for the help Meilleures salutations / Best regards, Joseph-Andr? GUARAGNA

user profil wipe in a samba 4 AD domain
I look at your article, and it did not change my view about profile. As we did not use any roaming/mandatory profile, nor we have any redirection. the only roaming we have is dedicated to few users and we use NFS as they are under linux, and way more simpler to set up. Strangely we do not have problems with those profiles. Maybe I am in a situation were : "You can't see the wood for the

Troubleshooting help?
I probably should have lead with this, but I did not create or deploy this particular setup, I was charged with keeping it going after the main person left. I have zero experience with Samba or Centrify, or I should say *had* no experience until this. So, I frankly have very little idea of what most of these options are for or why they're set the way they are. I can certainly edit per your

Samba4 computers not on W10 Network
My Samba4 computers (DC's & member server) are not shown within W10 File Explorer Network. Only the other workstations appear. I believe this is due to smb1 being depreciated. All the folder redirection still works, gpo, etc. Domain users can log in. What do I need to adjust so these machines appear in smb2? (I know this has been talked about before sorry.) -- Thank you. Troubleshooting help?
I'm terribly sorry if this isn't the proper place/method by which to get help with troubleshooting Samba errors/issues, but it's the best one I could find. I have an instance of Samba 4.8.3 running on a Centos 7.6 VM server (kernel 3.10.0-957.1.3), along with Centrify 5.5.2-578, that will allow folks to map a shared drive from their Windows 10 machines generally fine, but quite

Help! How do I make Samba3 + Winbind drop the domain\ on a user's account?
Hello, We have moved from PBIS to Samba + winbind. In PBIS, after logging in to a SSH session, the prompt (user context?) would be: username at hostname: Now, after logging in, the prompt is: domain\username at hostname: How do I make it drop the "domain\" ? This causes issues in other areas as passing "\" is an illegal character. Should we change the "\" to

Use the same user/password for linux and Windows clients

user profil wipe in a samba 4 AD domain
Yes that is exactly the point and why we implemented the AD in the first place. But still every person connecting to any workstation gets a home directory created whether it is on Linux or windows. And if I understood well, if no roaming profile in place on each machine the domain.user is created. Thus leading to blank home directory every time your user connect for the first time to a

Mixed-effects models / heterogeneous covariances
Dear R-list, maybe someone can help me with the following mixed-effects models problem, as I am unable to figure it out with the 'nlme-bible'. I would like to fit (in R, obviously) a so-called animal model (google e. g. "Heritability and genetic constraints of life-history" by Pettay et al.) to estimate the variance component that is due to genetic effects. The covariances of
