Samba4 creating users
Hello Rowland,
Thanks for the pointer. The good news is I have it working.
The bad news is there appears to be a problem. Both machines are on
the same subnet. I tried to connect from the win10 1803 box to the nas
box which has the netbios name of example2. It took almost a minute
before I was prompted for login credentials. Is this normal? Is there
anything I can do about it?
Again thanks.

R 4.0 for ARM processors
Thank you very much, Dirk. That nudge solved the problem, of course. I am embarrassed. I was so fixated on Ubuntu repositories that I neglected to check the Debian 'testing' world!
Regarding the RPi: The RPi 4 uses the 'arm64' architecture, the full 64-bit one. I stopped using dedicated distros, such as Raspian, when Ubuntu went all-in on RPi support, which happened in their

USB-serial adapter for CentOS 7
I've several USB <-> RS-232 dongles around. As well as a few embedded
devices. They all "Just Work (tm)" on Redhat, CentOS, Fedora, Debian,
Raspian and Kali.
Knock on wood - never had a problem using any of them. As the drivers are
part of the kernel, I'd expect any distro using a recent kernel to do well.

R 4.0 for ARM processors
Dear R-SIG-Debian folks,
I seem to be chasing my tail, despite having a simple goal:
- Install R 4.0.2
- On Ubuntu 20.04
- For an ARM processor (not Intel/AMD).
Can someone please suggest a Debian/Ubuntu repository of the required packages (e.g., r-base-core) built for ARM? I can't seem to find one.
(I can find the r-base-core package for R 3.6.3, but not R 4.0.2, built for ARM.)
If there

BIND9_DLZ: TKEY is unacceptable - depending on the name server
Dear Samba experts,
Since a couple of days I am trying to fix my domain.
I have each two ADDCs on raspis on two sites. One is running on Raspian and works fine. The other three are on Gentoo and something is broken there.
When I point the name resolution in resolv.conf to the Raspian machine the dynamic updates are just working fine:

Can't Connect With New Install
Hello -
I'm working on a project that when deployed I'll need wireless access for
updates / configuration changes. I've installed Samba but can't get it to
work. I can SSH and ping both the host name and IP, but no Samba.
I've searched online for help and tried everything that sounded reasonable
but I'm at a dead end. Here's some of the relevant info and I'd be glad

dovecot 2.3.x, ECC and wildcard certificates, any issues
Hi,
Thanks, good news is that worked. Bad news is it all looks good which
means I do not know hwhy my remote clients can't get their email,
looked like from the logs it was that.
Would 143 be better or 993 for the external clients?
Thanks.
Dave.

Xapian on Android?
Friends,
I would like to hear from anyone who has experience deploying Xapian on Android. I'm new to Xapian, but I know it is used by a couple partners for offline projects on Linux and Windows.
Our small nonprofit, WiderNet, provides off-line access to thousands of Web sites for people who lack Internet connectivity (www.widernet.org). Over 2,000 universities, schools, health care sites,

SMBx differences re Win10 in Samba4 NT4 DC
Given an existing NT4 Samba 4 DC, a recently upgraded Win10 machine can no
longer access NETLOGON to authenticate to the network. This lead to the
research revealing that my Samba4 PDC SMB.CONF must be changed to limit MAX
PROTOCOL = NT1 to avoid negotiating a version of SMB2 from Win10 that Samba4
can't resolve.
Doing this broke authentication via other resources that no longer support
NT1,
