Samba MFP "scan to share" issue
Hello,
I am testing a new samba share (Version 4.7.1) in order to replace an
old samba share (Version 3.5.6).
Especially, I am facing issues with Canon MFP "scan to share".
With model Canon IR1730 (SMB1 only capable), "scan to share" seems to
not work with the new 4.7.1 samba share.
The canon error code returns by the Canon iR1730 is #0753 with this
4.7.1 samba share.

Fwd: Re: Fwd: Extended acls with AD - problem with default/herited permissions
Hello Dale,
Set inherit acls = yes locally to my share groups, and remove map acl
inherit = yes from global parameters of smb.conf does not solve my issue.
I still have acl "Domain Users" added to new folders/files.
As i write in my previous email, the only way i found to disable acl
"Domain Users" to be added was with :
inherit owner = yes
With some disavantages for users

Fwd: Extended acls with AD - problem with default/herited permissions
Edouard,
These are the 4 available parameters containing the word "inherit".
inherit acls (S)
inherit owner (S)
inherit permissions (S)
map acl inherit (S)
Would "inherit acls" work for you?

Extended acls with AD - problem with default/herited permissions
Hello,
I set a share on a samba 4.7.1 as domain member with an Active Directory
controler, this share is used by all domain users.
All users from the AD domain have a primary group "Domain Users", and
secondary groups to filter access on the folders of the share.
I noticed that when a user create a sub-folder/file inside a "Top
folder", the default permissions from the

client min protocol = SMB2
Hello,
Thank you !
I add server min protocol = SMB2_02 to smb.cnf
All clients are now using SMB2_10 as minimum protocol version
May you indicate me the difference between "client min protocol" and
"server min protocol" ?
"server min protocol" is to use on a domain member
"client min protocol" is to use in which case ?
Should I also set client min

browsing problem with minimum protocol SMB2
I have a classic NT4 domain with the PDC also the wins server. With the
recent ransomware problem, we're trying to remove SMB1 and below
protocols.
However when I do this, the browse list is gone. Hosts can access
properly the shares, but they have to know exactly \\machine\share in
order to to connect. The same thing from a linux client:
smbclient -L {PDC} -m SMB2
Domain=[{MYDOMAIN}]

Share migration
Hello,
I will change a old samba share (SMB1 samba 3) to a new samba 4.8.3 (as
unix domain member server).
For this, I will copy datas from old share to the share via a rsync ssh
command :
rsync -aAX --progress --delete --stats --human-readable -e "ssh -p 22"
root at oldsambaserver:/mypath/* /mypath/
This command copy also all the acls from the old samba share and apply
it on the

User cannot log on from this workstation. Error 2240
Hello Rowland,
Yes, this is just for this user.
I was also thinking it was an issue with Windows 10.
But I noticed this error also on others workstations in Windows 7 pro
with this user account.
I will try to delete and recreate the account.

Can't join Windows 10 to classic domain
I've been running Samba 4 in NT4 Domain mode for a few years, and
it's been working fine with Windows 7 PCs.
I now need to join a new Windows 10 PC to the domain, but I'm not
having any success!
When I try to join the domain, the Windows 10 PC says "An Active
Directory Domain Controller could not be contacted...."
I've tried a few things, including:-

User cannot log on from this workstation. Error 2240
Hello Samba Team,
I faced an issue to allow a user to connect a samba share at windows
Logon and if I tried with "net use S: \\sambashare /user:DOMAIN\user passwd.
I get the following error :
"User cannot log on from this workstation. Error 2240"
It happens only with this user, because with others accounts I can
connect to the share without error.

Ressources needed (cpus, ram, etc.) for a Samba server
Dear Samba Users,
I am preparing a Samba box as standalone server (only files server,
centos 7).
This Samba box is a domain member server, and is dedicaded to serve
files to about 80 domain users.
I am wondering if there are some special requirements for this purpose
in terms of CPUs, Memory ?
The Samba box is a Vmware virtual machine, so I can easely configure this.
I noticed also in some

I conducted many tests and I noticed that I lose the domain-join on SMB1
soon as I joined SMB2 in the domain.
Step 1: SMB1 "net ads join -Uadministrator" -> OK
Step 2: SMB1 "net ads testjoin" -> OK
Step 3: SMB2 "net ads join -Uadministrator" -> OK
Step 4: SMB2 "net ads testjoin" -> OK

Is it possible to re-share a SMB2 filesystem for SMB1 clients?
Hi everyone,
I'm having the following situation:
I need to migrate all SMB file services to a new appliance that only
supports the SMB2+ protocol. Unfortunately, there are still some very
old Linux clients ("modinfo cifs" says version 1.60) that do only speak
SMB1 and need to access these shares after the migration.
Is it possible to have a Linux with a modern Samba

a new world | smb2
Hi Samba list!
I was very excited that SMB2 is finally working with samba 3.6.0 - great
job!!
I just know that SMB2 has a smaller command set compared to SMB1 and
this, beside
many other rebuilds of the code makes it faster
As I am completely new to the file transfer protocol world, I want to
ask a few basic things:
- is Samba backward compatible ... xp can't use SMB2 as far as I

Using MSDFS
I've set up a dfs share according to instructions. There is one part of the instructions that I don't understand. I've checked the forum archives but can't find any examples which might help.
In the Instructions section (4.1 of the HTML Samba Project Documentation), is shows how to set up the symbolic links in a DFS share, as shown below.
I have 2 Samba servers (SMB1 and SMB2).

samba 3 - smb2 cpu usage
Hi all,
At the moment we are running Debian squeeze with stock samba 3.5.6. and
are testing some new samba installations from ubuntu 12.04, centos 6.4
and debian wheezy. All running in a VM on a XenServer.
The samba servers are member of a 2008R2 domain, using smb1 protocol all
are running fine and we get a constant 90MB/s (big file transfer) on our
1GB network.
We would like to enable smb2

Fwd: Re: Ressources needed (cpus, ram, etc.) for a Samba server
Log level to 10 was for debug reasons, I can now surely set to 1 now.
Concerning idmap config IPGAD, I don't see why is the reason to start at 1...
I will set to 10000 as according to the documentation, thank you.
What do you mean by "
You are also using the winbind 'ad' backend, so have you added
anything to AD ?
" ?

SMB2 write performace slower than SMB1 in 10Gb network
Hi forks:
I've been testing SMB2 with samba 3.6.4 performance these days,
and I find a weird benchmark that SMB2 write performance is
slower than SMB1 in 10Gb ethernet network.
