Samba Active Directory Domain Controller
Hello James,
Thanks for your quick response.
Find attached smb.conf file from DC1 and DC2. Also attached the screen
shot of the event viewer from the workstation.
At the moment, we have brought down the DC3 and DC4 in another location
and observed that DC2 is unable to replicate get the information from
DC1 or send the information to DC1. It appears replication is working in
background but

Samba Active Directory Domain Controller
Hello,
I have implemented Samba as Active Directory Domain Controller with
Version 4.6.3 on CentOS 7.3, el-514. We have 4 domain controllers named
as DC1, DC2, DC3 and DC4. DC1 & 2 are in one location and DC3 & 4 are in
a different location. DNS is SAMBA INTERNAL. All 4 servers are properly
synchronizing and even GPO updates are working properly with rsync process.
However, off late

Group Policy Issues
Hello James,
Thanks for your suggestion.
When we had two servers in the pool, we were pushing GPO using rsync
from PDC at every 30 minutes. However when we added the two more domain
controllers, our rsync script turned to be a pull from PDC every 30
minutes. Would this have made those policy objects inconsistent?
We have set up sysvol replication using rsync unidirectional that is a
push

Then why are you not asking redhat ?
I am not saying I will not try to help you, but I would have thought
that redhat would have been your first port of call.

When accessing the User Properties only SIDs are shown instead of real name
Hello Rowland,
1. We always have been using self compiled samba not the binaries. In
fact, when we started we started on CentOS and then when CentOS became
an upstream edition, we moved to RHEL, but continued with self compiled
samba, never moved to prebuilt binaries.
2. SSSD - We are not using sssd anywhere. We have many Linux Servers but
those are not members of AD domain. Only the web

Samba Bind DLZ Slow queries
Hello All,
I hope you can assist me,
I'm running Bind DLZ with our Samba AD DC environment

1sec - 15sec or even timing out.
I'm been monitoring the

Hello Rowland
Samba is running on RHEL 8.9 (subscribed edition)
Domain is ktkbankltd.com and the work group is ktkbankltd. This is the
AD domain, not reachable from internet.
We have 5 servers named pdc.ktkbankltd.com, dc1.ktkbankltd.com,
dc2.ktkbankltd.com, dc3.ktkbankltd.com and dc4.ktkbankltd.com The name
PDC is just the name, unlike NT4 domain. These servers were initially

Group Policy Issues
Hi,
On two of our 4 Domain Controller Servers, the Group Policy Objects have
developed some issues. Windows are reporting that Group Policy objects
cannot be read.
Any recommendation to reset the Group Policy Objects. We are taking
daily backup using Samba_Backup script.
In the past, there was a recommendation not use "samba-tool ntacl
sysvolreset". Can we use it now. By the way

nameservers, all DCS??
I dont understand whats the question here.
But what i can say about the resolv.conf settings if you have multiple dc's.
You have to think in 2 DNS resolving settings.
1) on the server as client resolving ( resolv.conf )
2) clients resolving ( DNS Services )
The difference explained.
If i do : ping hostname this is a server which is doing a client dns request through resolve.conf

Well I'm not sure this kind of support is included, but even if it were,
then others would not benefit from the dialogue with their support. :-)

changes on DC not replicated, while showrepl reports no issues
Hi all,
We are running a three DC samba AD, using 4.12.8 sernet packages. Very
stable for years.
Today at 12:30 my colleague moved two users from
* CN=Users,DC=samba,DC=company,DC=com
to
* OU=disabled,DC=samba,DC=company,DC=com
This change was done on the DC4 at 12:30 using LAM (ldap-account-manager
version 7.3)
Ever since that, my automated samba-tool ldapcmp scripts started
