A few questions and propostions on the samba architecture
Got it, SQLITE3 KDB is dead. While scripting is always a solution, not having events and simply binding them to an interval seems inefficient and open source gives us the opportunity to solve things the "proper" way. I know, there are people who love to Bodge. As for the windows tools, assume I really rely on UID and GID for e.g. dovecot, setting up an account from the wrong

A few questions and propostions on the samba architecture
That explains why there is so little information on ldb and sqlite. From my pov sqlite just seemed interesting, as it has a well known syntax and the ability to embedd a transparent logic layer. As there is no effort to use sqlite (or sql) in the future , I just burried that path. As for compability I would strongly suggest to stay where Microsoft left off, before killing the "UNIX

getenv does not return any AD DOMAIN users or groups - ?nsswitch is not setup for Samba?
The problem is that getenv does not return any AD domain users or groups. From much research this seems to be because nsswitch is not setup for Samba. I would really appreciate some assistance as I think this is my last hurdle for actually being able to use this test file server. Ubuntu server 18.04 - Samba installed and configured (almost) Kerberos functioning. wbinfo --ping-dc successfully

Samba Secondary Groups
This has been bugging me for years but never got around to spending a lot of time on it until I now want/need to use it for work stuff. Problem is simple I get access denied when trying to create a file in a directory that is not owned by me or my primary group that doesn't have world writable permissions. Ive also had similar issues with NFS mounts where I can't move/create/delete files

Making ActiveSupport::Cache consistent
Lighthouse ticket: https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994-ruby-on-rails/tickets/4452 I have recently been working on some gems that utilize ActiveSupport::Cache and ran into some issues with the different implementations handling the same functionality differently. One of the issues was that I couldn''t rely on expiring entries with the :expires_in option. MemCacheStore takes this

Small problem with src/lib/mountpoint.c [now with patch attached!]
Greetings - [SIGH: I hit the "Send" button instead of "Attach". Here's Take 2...] Whilst playing with getting quotas from NFS-mounted filestores I've just discovered a slight problem with src/lib/mountpoint.c I had things working on a Solaris 10 test machine which had the mailstore mounted 'normally' using an entry in /etc/vfstab. However when I changed

Windows access to data created by Linux application
I am using Samba on a remote Linux system to offer Windows clients access to data being collected by a real-time system. The real-time data collection systems are built on the RH 8 Linux distribution. I also have one that was built using the RH Fedora Core 1 distribution. The data collection software runs as root (yes I do know its not the best way but for a number of reasons it is most convenient

Newbie questions: Load-balanced Dovecot with NFS storage
Hi, I experimented with Dovecot a while back and our site is now taking the plunge to switch to it from the UW IMAP server when we rejig the topology of our mail store and IMAP servers. Currently we have a farm of 5 IMAP servers running the UW server. Each has locally attached disk used to store people's mailboxes. Each user is allocated to one of these five servers and can only

GlusterFs - Any new progress reports?
GlusterFs always strikes me as being "the solution" (one day...). It's had a lot of growing pains, but there have been a few on the list had success using it already. Given some time has gone by since I last asked - has anyone got any more recent experience with it and how has it worked out with particular emphasis on Dovecot maildir storage? How has version 3 worked out for

ldapsam:trusted = yes kills smbd
Hi, we want to use ldapsam:trusted=yes to improve performace as nss_ldap is killing our ldap server doing enumeration. once i enable it smbd dies silently... this is the last part of a ./smbd -d 10 -i NT user token: (NULL) UNIX token of user 0 Primary group is 0 and contains 0 supplementary groups smbldap_search: base => [ou=groups,ou=filestore,dc=sunderland,dc=ac,dc=uk], filt er =>

Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Hello, I've been trying to get Ubuntu 18.04 to work with Samba AD, seems I am almost there but am unable to get home directories to mount properly.  The domain join went without a problem but because the default cifs ver changed in Ubuntu to get other Samba shares on a samba file server to mount I had to add to it's smb.conf: client min protocol = SMB2 client min protocol = SMB3 So

Domain Provision Freeze
Hi, I use Samba4 domain controler since 4.0 version over Debian. Today I use Debian 9.8 and Samba 4.9.6 without problems in many productions environments. Last week I decide make a test with Debian 9.8 and Samba 4.10. All ocours very fine trough compile process but when I try create domain with 'samba-tool domain provision" nothing happen. The shell freeze and the process don't go
