4.5 -> 4.8 samba fails to start
Hi all,
I'm trying to upgrade samba from 4.5 to 4.8 and it no longer starts.
This is using the Debian Jessie (4.5.12+dfsg-2+deb9u2) and Debian
testing (4.8.2+dfsg-1) packages.
Below are a log file from the non-starting server, and testparm on
the working 4.5, and again on the non-working 4.8.
I do so an ERROR in the the testparm for 4.8:

Linux multiple member server
Rowland,
Sorry, now I am really confused . . . I thought users were suppose to
maintain the same ranges on all the member servers?
My ranges came from the v4.1 days when I was running Sernet version (before
they moved to a pay for model.)
I trying to join a linux workstation to my domain (if that makes a
difference.)

Can only access new SAMBA fileshare from Windows as privileged user SAMDOM/Administrator, not as an ordinary user.
Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help me?
I recently created an active directory setup with a primary domain
controller ad1 and secondary domain controller ad2 for a domain SAMDOM.
In-line with what I understand to be Samba best practices I then setup a
separate file-server fs1 on which I created a file share,
/fsrv/shares/OgdenFiles/. This has all been done using Samba version

4.5 -> 4.8 samba fails to start
Hi Rowland,
Thanks for your explanation.
We have set up Samba to authenticate users against an external MIT
Kerberos server and usernames match those in Unix password files.
The setup was almost exactly like the Ubuntu help page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Samba/Kerberos#MIT_Kerberos
There are others who have also set up Samba this way:

Hi *,
at the moment the build of clang is broken on MSVC 9.0 (according to
buildbot http://google1.osuosl.org:8011/console at least since

4.8.x domain join warning message
Hi:
I tried to use samba 4.8.1/4.8.2 to join windows domain as DC. and
saw warning message like "Unable to determine the DomainSID, can not
enforce uniqueness constraint on local domainSIDs"
I didn't get that message when using samba 4.7.7. is the message
safe to ignore?
the complete join message below:

I do not know, you may have found a bug
If I run 'id guest' on a Samba 4.6.x DC, I get this:
uid=3000002(SAMDOM\guest) gid=10000(SAMDOM\domain users)
groups=10000(SAMDOM\domain
