Win98 clients accessing Samba file server.
HI All I'm in the process of setting up my first Linux box at work, a basic file server for all 20+ Win clients (I'm sick of paying M$ CAL) all have a 'home' directory and all share a 'shared' directory. What my problem is, everything is working OK with WinXP/2000 I can see the shared directory and our own home directory on the Samba box. With Win98 I can only see and

Help troubleshooting "find_domain_master_name_query_fail" on SMB v4?
I'm running smbd -V Version 4.1.0rc2-3.1-3075-SUSE-oS12.3-x86_64 This is a standalone server, and the only SMB/CIFS instance on my LAN. On launch, I see the following "find_domain_master_name_query_fail" error in logs. I can't track down what I've managed to do wrong; pointers appreciated. ==> log.nmbd <== [2013/09/07 16:21:41, 2]

You can join a Windows Server to a Samba4 Domain controller and set up the WSUS server role and it should work. HOWEVER, if you are going to point all your devices at the WSUS server, you will require CALs for the devices or the users using them to maintain licensing compliance with Microsoft. At this point, you have paid for the number of Windows Server CALs you need to run actual Active

I think you are talking about making it act like WSUS or RIS role. This is not possible (but would be cool). login scripts --what to use
Hi, We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share. Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files? Thanks, chris

Squid question

I need for a MS WSUS server and a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager to get through a squid proxy to get out to Microsoft and Symantec respectively to get MS patches and Symantec DAT files. The traffic needs to go through the squid proxy, through a firewall, and through an upstream McAfee gateway
