samba behavior change with version upgrade
I have two linux mint systems on my network and use samba to share data
between them. I am in the process of upgrading one of them from linux
mint maya to linux mint sylvia, which also upgrades smbd from 3.6.25 to
4.3.11-Ubuntu and encountering behavior differences. I suspect I need to
tweak my newer smb.conf file to correct this problem.
The system I am in process of upgrading offers a

Hey Gang,
I'm stuck near the end of installing Samba 4 on a Debian Wheezy machine.
I'm trying to connect to a Win2k AD.
Basically I can't get "getent passwd" to show domain accounts. I also
can't access shares using my credentials. What did I forget?!
Here is what works:
sudo net ads join -U "DOMAINADMIN"
wbinfo -g //shows domain groups!
wbinfo -u

That RTL8169 thing...
Motherboard - Intel DG41TY
Device: RealTek: 8111D
Driver: RTL8169
Causes Kernel panic during install and boot.

It seems that the newer the card that uses this driver, the worse the problems are.
Is there any plan to roll a newer version into the installer or the actual distribution itself?
Thanks,
-Drew

I am consolidating and restating this problem as thus far I have
received no answer from the group as to how to correct this problem.

Can't access by NetBIOS Aliases or IP Address
Hi all.
I am running Debian jessie server with Samba, which has joined the Active Directory domain. The domain controllers are Windows Server 2012 R2.
After I upgraded Samba version from 4.1.17+dfsg-2+deb8u2 to 4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u2, I'm facing the problem that I can't access Samba share by NetBIOS Aliases or IP Address.
The Samba's NetBIOS name is mysamba, and I can access by

Windows 7 client trying to authenticate with windows machine name
Hello there.
I'm having an issue authenticating a Windows 7 (not in a domain) against a Samba 4.1.17 (debian Jessie). It appears that the client is trying to authenticate using with it's machine name and not the user filled in the auth form. I'm using security = user and I can confirm that the share is working with Win8. Could you check my conf & the error and share me your

Migration Samba3 -> Samba4: Accessing domain member server is not working
Hi ...
When trying to migrate from samba3 to samba 4.2.2 I am facing a severe
problem that bugs me for hours now. I cannot get a samba 4.2.2
fileserver to work with a samba 4.2.2 PDC as a domain member.
My scenario:
Samba 3 network. PDC and fileserver where Samba 3.6.25. LDAP backend.
We can't move to AD right now so I wanted to move to the current 4.2.2
at least to do this step but to

samba problem with version upgrade - restated
I am taking the unusual measure of posting before anyone responds to my
post as something occurred to me and the results of testing it yields
useful information relevant to my problem.
It finally occurred to me that the behavior I am seeing with sylvia,
specifically the fact that a file added via the share from the other
system gets ownership of "nobody/nogroup", that perhaps 4.3.11
