Help, DNS forwarding not working!
Please ignore, resolved now (although I don't know why or how). Strange that things always resolve only after (!) posting to this list. The latter seems to work in magic ways. ;) Rowland, thank you very much for your quick replay!! I was able to ping the forwarder, but i wasn't able to resolve any hostnames on the DCs themselves. After I restarted the samba services, the issue went

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
Hi Rowland, thank you for your effort! However, this is entirely not what I am trying to achieve. What I am trying to achieve is to get the "prexec" method to work. The reason behind this is that I would like to have a zfs data set created per user in an automatic (scripted) way. The reason behind that is that if I do this by hand - from a domain admin account and with the ACL

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
Hi, I am trying to automatically create nested zfs data sets as home directories. I have a script that works fine if I execute it manually as root (auth via public key). It also creates a short log file in the same dir. However, this section in my smb.conf (on the DC) doesn't seem to execute (no data set created, no log file) on user logon (on a member server): [homes] comment =

Demote a dead PDC: residuals in "DNS" console
Thank you for hint to this VBS script. In fact I alraedy saw it but I'm not too confident in my VB knowledge, so I didn't use that script, prefering rely on Samba command and shell scripts to work around issues. You spoke about SOA record which wasn't changed, same here. There is another DNS record I had to change: _ldap._tcp.pdc._msdcs.samba.domain.tld. I spoke about removing

Demote a dead PDC: residuals in "DNS" console
Hi, I played with demote recently on a test AD domain composed with Samba version 4.3.0 and 4.3.1. I demoted all version 4.3.0. I was facing same issue as you. I written long mails here to explain how I managed that. My DNS looks clear now. Today I played with AD sites and I found in default sites all demoted DC. They weren't removed from DNS DB nor here. For now I have no idea how to get

How to delete a corrupt record from internal DNS
I accidentally created a SRV record with a false port. I then updated the port but was afraid of any consequences. So I deleted that record again and wanted to re-create it. But now I can't: "The record already exists." Observations: 1) I can't see it in the RSAT DNS gui, so I can't delete it there. 2) I also can't delete it via samba-tool (although I could delete

Demote a dead PDC: residuals in "DNS" console
Hi, I demoted my PDC (DC1) forcefully, because replication (among others) wasn't working anymore due to hard disk failure and I was afraid of spending a lot of time on nothing. With DC1 offline I seized the FSMO roles on DC2 (4.2.5), restarted Samba, and found errors in the samba log due to the missing DC1. I removed the two DNS entries created according to this site:

Demote a dead PDC: residuals in "DNS" console
Having joined a new Secondary DC to my domain and manually created the DNS A record and the CNAME record as described here https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Check_and_fix_DNS_entries_on_DC_joins, I find that my PDC also has an A record in "_msdcs.my.domain.com", which the new Secondary DC has not. Is this a problem? Should I create this record as well? Ole
