Troubleshooting high CPU load
I'm investigating high CPU load on a domain member server (file server) after an upgrade from 4.5.5 to 4.6.2. The problem continued after a subsequent upgrade to 4.6.7. I turned up the log level to 3 for a short time and looked at the logs. One thing I notice is some entries like this: [2018/01/24 18:28:37.933498, 3] ../source3/auth/user_krb5.c:164(get_user_from_kerberos_info)

smbstatus issue in v4.1
Sorry I should have said in my original post, this server is a NT4 style domain server. Looking in /var/log/samba I see log files with the machine names in the file names, so samba definitely knows the machine names. smbstatus issue in v4.1
Mark, I think (and I may be wrong here, so if a dev sees this correct me) smbstatus works with sockets. With that being said, I don't think it has been updated to work with samba as an AD DC, but should still work fine on other configurations (member server, legacy DC, etc). If you are running with a non ad dc config, let us know, there may be a bug there. Ricky On Wed, Dec 17, 2014 at 5:12

Windows 10 workstation won't register with DNS after Samba update
We recently upgraded Samba on our DC from 4.7.6-0 to 4.11.9-3. Everything seems to be running fine over the last few weeks after the update. I'm now setting up a new computer & am having issues getting it to register with DNS. Windows shows that it has joined the domain. I can see the system in ADUC, but no A record in DNS Manager. I've run ipconfig /registerdns, but the event log

Samba, AD, 'short' name resolving...
Hai, If the primary domain is set in windows, which is after domain join, it used that. Ipconfig /all and see primary DNS suffix. The dns suffix and first dns search list should be the same. Yes, other settings are possible, but stick to this for now. The Primay DNS suffix is used for the register of the IP in the DNS. The DHCP Service User MUST be a member of the DNSAdmins. The DHCP

SOCKSv6 and OpenSSH
Hi there, I'm Vladimir Olteanu (or just Vlad, for short), and I'm working on the SOCKSv6 protocol. It is being discussed at the IETF (https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-olteanu-intarea-socks-6-10). The spec has matured somewhat and is currently undergoing an adoption call at the Intarea WG. I would like to get your opinion on this newer version of the protocol, in particular on how

samba-tool create user
I'm working on a shell script to create new users on a AD DC. Currently we use ADUC, but that is slow and error-prone. My (untested) command looks like this: samba-tool user create $USERNAME $PASSWORD \ --nis-domain=sta \ --unix-home=/home/${USERNAME} \ --uid-number=${NEXTID} \ --login-shell=/sbin/nologin \ --gid-number=513 \ --use-username-as-cn \ --home-drive=Z \

can't find how to solve "QEMU guest agent is not connected"
I am trying to make Qemu agent work with libvirt thanks to https://github.com/NixOS/nixops/pull/922 with libvirt 4.1.0. I've been trying to make it work for quite some time but I still haven't the slightest idea of what is wrong, I keep seeing "Guest agent is not responding: QEMU guest agent is not connected" as the program I use (nixops) calls the libvirt python API. I
