Samba 4.9 AD as LDAP address book for Apple Contacts macOS 10.13 - Thunderbird works
Hi, we used OpenLDAP for some time as address book for Apple Contact and Thunderbird. Now we switch that to Samba AD and Thunderbird works. We needed some SSL Certificates, which can be verified by Thunderbird, so we got some from our CA working. Bu I can’t connect Apple Contacts to that LDAP connection and I can’t find any documentation so far. My guess is, that Apple Contacts uses login user

Upgrading from 4.6.x to 4.7.x AD and member server setup - recommended path
Hi, we have three 4.6.x AD servers in a cluster and some member Fileservers. What is the best/savest/recomended upgrade path? Can I upgrade the AD servers one by one and run a „mixed“ setup for some time (minutes) ? Or do I have to shutdown/disable two of them first, then update the one still up and running and than updates the others? Thanks for hints and suggestion! Regards . Götz

questions regarding 40G Samba Server
Hi, we expect a growth in bigger file transfers (files n*10 GB up to multiple 100GB) on a regular base from a smaller number of users combined with the "normal" office use with word files, mail profiles etc from about 500 users. We plan a new Fileserver/Storage Head with 40Gb NICs client and storage side. What would be regarding to samba be of more importance: multiple Cores or more

string_to_sid: SID .... is not in a valid format - Any clue?
Hi, I do get a lot of „string_to_sid: SID .... is not in a valid format“ in our samba 4.6.x Logs. What might be wrong or what might I check. Users can login to the domain and we don’t see any problem on the user / client side … Thanks for suggestion and hints . Regards . Götz

Shorewall, OpenVPN, Routing - more a routing(?) problem ...
Hi, I don''t know any other group of routing gurus like the members of this list, so may be you can give me some hints. I do have a shorewall firewall up and running, openvpn is installed on this server too and is working fine so far except one new situation: I have set up a new local vlan, which I can access from my other local vlans, but not from the opnevpn-vlan. All "old"

RH 9, Samba 2.2.8 and Mac OS X Clients
Hi, we run a RH9 samba 2.2.8 ext3 Server and have some problems with MacOS X Clients: They aren't allowed to write directories containing files to any of our shares. I connect to the sambaserver with smb://servername/sharename and a samba user. This user is allowed to create new folders and he can copy files into this folder. But if he tries to copy the local folder containing files to

General status of flac
Hi. I'm preparing to start a major encoding project, about a TiB or so. Flac is one of the components I plan on using. As I've used it forever anyways and haven't seen a commit since January nor a release since 2007... Is there a general status of flac along with a roadmap available? Only one suggestion: sign the releases with OpenPGP. Thanks for flac! :)

ext3 4TB fs limit on amd64 (FAQ?)
Hi, I've a question about the max. ext3 FS size. The ext3 FAQ explains that the limit is 4TB. http://batleth.sapienti-sat.org/projects/FAQs/ext3-faq.html | Ext3 can support files up to 1TB. With a 2.4 kernel the filesystem size is | limited by the maximal block device size, which is 2TB. In 2.6 the maximum | (32-bit CPU) limit is of block devices is 16TB, but ext3 supports only up | to 4TB.

how to check open connections/files without smbstatus / swat
Hi, I have one user who should be able to _view_ all open files and connections on a samba server. He should not be allowed to login to the server by telnet or ssh to use smbstatus, nore should he be able to use swat as long as he could view the configfile. So my question: is there a way to configure swat for one user to only view the opened connections? Or dose someone has an other idea?

could not open libRmath.so
Hi I got a very tricky problem when I tried to compile a C++ program which links to libRmath.so. The program itself had no problem, I can compile and run in my own linux machine where I compiled libRmath.so file and copied it to system directory (/usr/local/lib). Now I want to compile my program at another linux box where I don't have root privilege. That machine only has binary version of R,

questions regarding 40G Samba Server
CIFS is single threaded, if you plan on using it with a large amount of users, you'll want to have faster cores. NFS is multi threaded, so you can take advantage of additional cores better. Depending on how many users you are serving, it sounds like a six core E5 (higher per core clock) would fit well. On Wed, Jul 13, 2016 at 2:29 AM, Götz Reinicke - IT Koordinator < goetz.reinicke at
