Debian stretch samba 4.8.2 available amd64/i386 ( ubuntu 18.04 compatible )
Hai,   I've just tested the new samba 4.8.2 on my debian stretch and a ubuntu 18.04 test server (AD DC server) Rowland, can you test these on your Duvean server also?  :-)   You only need the following for samba 4.8.2 of my repo: echo "deb http://apt.van-belle.nl/debian stretch-samba48 main contrib non-free" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/van-belle.list wget -O -

Samba4 on Ubuntu 18.04 Howto setup ADDC with bind9_DLZ (extra part 4.8.1 samba)
Hai Paul. Yep. time sync is a must in ADDC setups and for very server it a must imo. You might need to sync a hardware clock also, because if the hardware clock gets more then 5 min out of sync. You might end up en some strang problem. And do note, NTP Server is only needed on the DC,s members, just point them to the DC. Better imo, add CNAME ntp1 to dc1 and ntp2 to dc2 and use the ntp1/2

VM bootup got failed with systemd/dbus error messages
We are having one server machine (ubuntu 16.04 OS) with 10 VMs. When the server is rebooted, some VMs got failed to boot with systemd/dbus error messages. Rebooting the affected VMs resolves this issue. Samba4 on Ubuntu 18.04
I installed two samba ad in replication. One fileserver (domain member) and printserver (domain member). I built a CTDB cluster with it. All are running on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS! On the AD Server i got a problem with the internal DNS from samba because systemd-resolver thought it is the DNS boss now. I disabled systemd-resolve (systemctl disable systemd-resolved.service) and mange the

Hai, @Rowland. Yes yes, you did say you hate systemd. :-) I had a hard(er)time on this one also but i got passed it. ;-) But you and everybody else on the list, please review this setup. And a very big thank you Rowland for the start of it. This should be a good base to start with as howto for ubuntu 18.04 systemd based. Any suggestion additions please add them, below is also the order

Problems getting POSIX ACL working on upgraded samba file server Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS
Running a Samba 4 AD DC on Ubuntu 18.04, and fileservers on 18.04. Our access control needs are rather simple and worked well under the samba 3 series with LDAP users and groups so we plan to keep using the POSIX ACL (regular filesystem access controls) On a fresh install file server(18.04) samba 4 with POSIX ACLs work with no issue, but I can't get the permissions to work properly on the

Samba Won't start after upgrading Operating system
Top posting... While I don't really see any details that indicate this is the problem, systemd-resolved causes the packaged 18.04 samba to fail to start [at least in a full AD setup.] That's because system has a full DNS resolver, and Samba also has it's own DNS resolver. When they both try to start on the same port, the first running wins [systemd] and Samba exits. Since you're

Upgrading your Samba AD-DC from Stretch to Buster, used samba 4.10.6.
Hai guys, After a few messages on the list on Buster, i decided to upgrade one of my production AD-DC's and see what happens. If noticed a few things here, so here are the steps and changes i made to upgrade and have a correct working AD-DC after the upgrade. Setup is as followed: Debian Stretch AD-DC with Bind9 DLZ and ntp time. This is still the base i used for my AD-DC
