Password change
Hi Guys,
We are getting the following error when the users are trying to change the
password from their windows machine: "Configuration information could not
be read from the domain controller, either machine is unavailable or access
is denied"
Our Samba PDC has LDAP backend. We have the following
/etc/ldap/ldap.conf
BASE dc=testdomain
URI ldap://192.168.1.1

Fwd: Migrating server
Hi Gruss,
At this stage there is only one server, running 3.6.25 on Ubuntu12.04. The
plan to get LDAP to work on this one. Then add the second server 4.x and
the promote it to BDC and then demote this one. Just a side info, we
didn't want to go tdbsam in both as I read it breaks the domain trust.
The domain names are real ones.
I ran the commands you suggested, nothing in reply. I tried

trouble with ldap authentication on centos+openldap
Hi Samba List,
I've been trying to get a samba+ldap working on centos 6.3. I've had
some troubles adapting to the new slapd.d configuration format for the
openldap, which seems unnecassarily complicated. Most of the tutorials
refer to the older style slapd.conf configuration. I was following this

LDAP BDC- Classic Domain
Hi Guys,
We're trying to add a BDC in Samb4 classic domain setup. The Samba 3 How -To and Samb3 by Example covers this but uses the old slapd.conf option, we are using the slapd.d config. I couldn't find a similar document for Samba4
Can you please advise that the following steps will work? LDAP in the existing PDC is working using the smbldap tools
- Setup the LDAP in BDC

LDAP auth_bind fails
Hello,
I wanted to configure dovecot for using auth_bind but didn't succeed to
me it seems like it does always an anonymous bind.
Dovecot version 2.1.1 (I started with 2.1.0 and hoped 2.1.1 would fix it)
I tried to play around with the base, pass_attrs,pass_filter to no avail
but didn't succeed.
Looking at a wireshark trace i only saw 7 packets and it seemed to me
dovecot did only

Samba & LDAP: "Unable to allocate a new user id: bailing out!"
Hi!
I'm currently setting up a Samba 3 PDC. So far I managed to setup Samba
with an OpenLDAP backend, but adding a user with the command "net rpc
user add mg password -U root" results in the following error:
Failed to add user 'mg' with: WERR_GENERAL_FAILURE.
In the logfile it says:

Issues post AD migration
Hi ,
We ran the classic upgrade and migrated the domain . We were then able to add a Windows Server 2008R2 and dcpromo it.
Here are some of the issues we are seeing post migration
- Pre the migration, the password backend was LDAP. We had some groups that we had migrated into LDAP from TBD. These groups doesn't seem to have come up in AD.
- Any groups that were created in

Samba4 Internal DNS - CNAME not working
Hello,
It seems Samba4 is having problems with CNAME records. I am seeing the same
behavior as mentioned in the thread below. Is there any ETA on a fix for
this? This is identical to the problem with MX records. This is currently a
much bigger problem than the MX records. I appreciate any assistance.

Failure demoting 2008_R2 DC (S4rc5)
Hello,
We are currently testing S4rc5 for an upcoming S3 to S4 migration. I am
able to duplicate this issue with both classicupgrade and a new provision
(both cases using internal DNS). I am able to join a 2008R2 system to the
domain and promote it to a DC, however I am unable to demote it. The
problem appears to be that the 2008R2 server fails replicating to the S4
DC. The specific error that I

Samba 4.0.9 running on centos 6.5 (64bit) share access issues
Hi,
We are running Samba 4.0.9 running on centos 6.5 (64bit) with SecureLinux disabled.
Having some share access issues, what are we missing to solve this puzzle?
We are attempting to get the MSDFS share working. Until we can fix this we cannot continue.
This is the Domain provision and dns, and reverse zone setup.

winbind joins with domain name , not netbios name
Hi,
I am having a problem with Winbind:
First, some information ..
Domain name :TESTDOM

Winbindd and SSH (just disconnects after login)
It looks like I've gotten the majority of things working in regards to
Winbind. Users are being authenticated by the NT4 PDC when connecting to
shares, but I can't seem to get things set up correctly to allow logging in
via SSH(OpenSSH_3.6.1p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090702f). It
appears as though I'm successfully authenticated by the PDC, but then the

Clients no longer updating DNS & unable to delete MX records
Hello,
After noticing some odd behavior on my domain, I realized that many of my
DNS records are incorrect and that clients are no longer properly updating
DNS. While looking into this, I also discovered that I am unable to delete
MX records via AD DNS Manager or samba-tool. Both tools "see" the record
but report it does not exist when I attempt to delete it. I can create new
