I can send some more, this time from classicupgrade.
Again I do not want to do these changes myself, a samba expert should
have a look.

According to "man smb.conf" workgroup is not the same as netbios name.

future of non-AD samba?

Thank you very much for clarification. This means that SMB1 and PDC are
the problems, not lack of AD.
But if we later need to switch to AD, is there a method like
classicupgrade to do it? Currently classicupgrade of a standalone server
Samba 3 creates a standalone server Samba

user cannot access shares on new ad-dc
Hi,
I just installed a new AD-DC as described in the wiki.
Administrator can log on and see the two default-shares.
Then I used ADUC from RSAT to create an OU and a user.
User can see the shares (and can map them to a drive letter),
but is denied to look inside.
Same for another share which I added.
Even when administrator grants permission to everybody.
I read more wiki, which made me to add a

Permission issue
Hi Rowland,
The user's ID range would have been below 3600, the current max rid is 3506
The links have been setup following this link, then restarted the samba-ad-dc service
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Libnss_winbind_Links
I followed the following to configure the winbindd stuff,

Permission issue
Hi,
We did a classicupgrade of our Ubuntu Server (4.3.11, TDB), the server DC5 also host shares. Post the migration we are seeing some permission issues.
When trying to give permission to a domain group/user to folder/file we get the following
chown "LIN\\myadmin:LIN\\adgroup" adtest/
chown: invalid user: 'LIN\\myadmin:LIN\\adgroup'
wbinfo --ping-dc : checking the NETLOGON

future of non-AD samba?
Hi,
We plan to upgrade servers, and wonder which configuration is
future-proof. Must we switch to AD, or will a new Standalone Server also
continue to serve Windows 10 clients?
Several messages suggest that new Windows sometimes cannot access old Samba.
What exactly is the cause? Is it Standalone Server versus Domain, is it
old-style PDC versus AD, or is it SMB protocol version 1 versus 2 or

Wiki content announcement
Hello
my latest content updates:

New page. It replaces the old "Member Server" page, which shows now
just a notice

Everything to know is described on the new "Domain Member" page.

Hi Rowland,
Fair comment. This is not a new domain and we are migrating to AD.
The box in question runs Samba 3.6 (PDC and a physical box) and as such we are not able to directly migrate it. We are adding a Samba 4 box (a VM) , to which will become the new PDC . This box will then be used to migrate to AD. The Samba 3 box will converted as a file server.
The confusion in smb.conf is possibly

[LLVMdev] Help adding the Bullet physics sdk benchmark to the LLVM test suite?
Hi Anton,
Thanks a lot for offering help.
Bullet uses basic linear algebra with 4-way vectors, quaternion and
matrices.
Although most of this is plain portable C++ perhaps LLVM can auto-vectorize
some of this?
There is a little bit of hand optimized x86 SSE code. This is only enabled
on 32bit Windows and Mac OSX Intel builds.

[LLVMdev] Help adding the Bullet physics sdk benchmark to the LLVM test suite?
Hi,
We are developing the open source Bullet physics engine, used by game and
movie studios,
and compiler performance tuning is important to us. See
http://bullet.googlecode.com
The physics engine includes collision detection, rigid body dynamics and
soft body dynamics.
I've been following the LLVM project for a while, and it seems the Clang C++
compiler is mature enough

Yes, I had modified two lines in /etc/nsswitch.conf:
passwd: files winbind
group: files winbind
No, I had not seen a pointer to libnss, but now did
ln -s /usr/local/samba/lib/libnss_winbind.so.2 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/

Fwd: Wiki Contribution - YUM Tips and Tricks
Hi CentOS-Docs Team!
I got distracted and didn't re-read the "contribute to the wiki"
instructions before sending off a message to this list (I'm subscribed to
Docs now for sure!). So my initial message hit the bit bucket 'cause I
wasn't subscribed (d'oh!).
