winbind service panics "randomly"
Hey Roland, Since my last e-mail, I went to sleep and left the thing running. It's a production server (from "9 to 5") and for the last hours it has been working flawlessly. I'm beginning to think it's not really "random". Not really sure it's a bug; it seems to happen when I check it with wbinfo (the log I sent was a good example). But not always. Weird. 1)

That is halfway there, so lets ask the second question in a different way ;-) Did you have all these packages installed before you compiled Samba: ---------> yes, all are installed > > acl \ > apt-utils \ > attr \ > autoconf \ > bind9utils \ > binutils \ > bison \ > build-essential \ > curl \ > debhelper \ > dnsutils \ > docbook-xml \ > docbook-xsl

Changing expired Samba AD password during Windows login
On another clean install (with all updates) of Ubuntu Server 16.04.3, trying your line of dependencies fails: Package libgpgme-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package 'libgpgme-dev' has no installation candidate E: Unable to locate package

Installation of Samba 4.3 on Ubuntu Server 15.04 failed
Thank you Rowland, I finally managed to create '/usr/local/samba‘ and I also created a basic smb.con in "/etc/samba-4.3.0“. But when I try to start the Deamons manually with /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D (and /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -D) I get the error: /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd: No such file or directory How can I start the deamons instead? Or is this a hint that the installation is

samba's source code won't compile on ubuntu 14.04 LTS
This is a little rough, but I recently did this with Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS and Samba source code 4.3.1: Installing Ubuntu: All steps default except: - Choose to install "OpenSSH server" When rebooted: - sudo -s - apt-get update - apt-get upgrade - apt-get install open-vm-tools #if you have this in a VMware VM - shutdown -r now On reboot, login, then... - vi /etc/network/interfaces Edit

Changing expired Samba AD password during Windows login
I went back and re-installed on a clean VM of Ubuntu Server 16.04.3 and built Samba 4.7.4 with default configuration and it works just fine to change expired passwords at login. I should have tested this default configuration a while back. I was trying to use MIT Kerberos instead of Hemidal and had followed all the directions on this link:

Winbind not working on Ubuntu 18.04 Samba 4.8.0 File Sever
Good Morning, Ive been trying to test Samba AD on Ubuntu 18.04 using samba version 4.8.0  The DC seems to be working fine all tests have passed.  I was able to connect Win7 RSAT, a Ubuntu workstation and a File server.  My problem is the file server will not give response to 'sudo getent passwd' with or with out username or DOMAIN\username. Everything else works as far as I can tell.

samba's source code won't compile on ubuntu 14.04 LTS
This was my first post to the Samba list. It’s my intention to lend a hand to people, using my experiences as a launchpad, but sometimes a best practice is unbeknownst to me. For your suggestions, Rowland, I thank you. Your comments will help me improve my practice.
