Migrating: tdb to ldap (Samba Classic)
Why do you wan't to switch to NT-Domain with LDAP? Why not change to AD?
It is much easier and better for the future

Samba3 by example problems
Hi All,
I am going through a setup of a test samba3 box with rh9 with my self rolled
copy of 3.0.10. I have removed the old rpm version of samba. I compiled
3.0.10 with all defaults except for the install prefix which I set
to /usr/local/samba3.
I followed the steps given in Chap 6 - making users happy in the online html
version.
I changed a few things. Instead of MASSIVE as the PDC name I

Possible documentation error in Chapter 8. Migrating NT4 Domain to Samba-3
Looking through this chapter today and ran across the following
inconsistency under the section NT4 Migration Using LDAP Backend.
Step 3 says
"3. Create a file called preload.LDIF as shown in Example 8.1. Edit the
contents so that the domain name and SID are correct for the site being
installed."
Then step 4 says
"4. Preload the LDAP database so it is ready to receive the

Yet Another LDAP Question
Hi All,
I know this must have been discussed around here a million times, but I really
didn't find this info anywhere else and I'm on a deadline here.
I already have an FC1 server with a working LDAP directory in production. The
same server runs a Samba PDC, but not with LDAP functionality yet.
All I need to know right now is if I have to include some standard user and
group

Problem with two cards Digium
Hello,
I`ve got a problem which I can`t deal with. I own 2 cards - TDM2400P and
TE410P. I`ve put them into a HP Proliant DL380 G4 server, compiled the
drivers according to the manual. Unfortunetly there are both cards
channels are configured in zaptel.conf file the first module (in this
file) sends an error.
For configuration:

Using MSDFS
I've set up a dfs share according to instructions. There is one part of the instructions that I don't understand. I've checked the forum archives but can't find any examples which might help.
In the Instructions section (4.1 of the HTML Samba Project Documentation), is shows how to set up the symbolic links in a DFS share, as shown below.
I have 2 Samba servers (SMB1 and SMB2).

ubuntu installation: can't find ldpaths
I'm trying to install R under Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy; Linux
2.6.22-15-generic x86_64). Following the instructions at
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/README, I installed r-base,
r-base-core, and r-base-dev without any problems. When I open R,
however, I get the message "Can't open /usr/lib64/R/etc/ldpaths".
That file is linked to /etc/R/ldpaths, which doesn't exist

dovecot freezes when trying to get mail from maildir with mail
I'm completely stumped by this problem and I've tried everything at
present - including installing dovecot from scratch.
The problem is that when trying to get email from the server -AND-
there's email in the account, the pop3 or imap process freezes and no
email is fetched. The crazy thing is, that it has been working
perfectly, but suddenly I'm getting these freezes both

adding users to group with net rpc
section 13.3.2 of the HOWTO shows that i can add a user to a group with the
following command:
root# net rpc group addmem "MIDEARTH\Engineers" ajt -Uroot
when i execute this command (replaced with my server specific values, of
course), i get a NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER error.
i can verify that my user DOES exist and that he belongs to the posix group
account. i can also verify that the

Fwd: Migrating server
Hi Andrew,
I was able to domain join the server to the domain, had to add in
client ipc signing = auto
security = domain
Then it comes up with Joined "sam4Dc" to the domain. What does that step
actually do?
Coming back to your comments.
At a point in time both servers will be DCs. The plan is that after that
point Samba3 box will cease to become a DC and act as a file server only.

Unable to follow dfs referral - still a problem for smbclient & also freebsd smbfs
Hi,
Does anyone know if there has been any more progress on the problem of
browsing 'complex dfs roots'
see http://lists.samba.org/archive/smb-clients/2006-February/000622.html
Basically it occurs whenever you have a Microsoft Distributed File System
Tree where the links are to subfolders of the destination share.
Microsoft clients have no trouble browsing such trees.

MSDFS info...
Hi, I'm new on Samba...
I'm trying to set a samba server with a DFS share. I have found this
example:
# The smb.conf file:
[global]
netbios name = SAMBA
host msdfs = yes
[dfs]
path = /export/dfsroot
msdfs root = yes
then I must create some link into /export/dfsroot:
root# cd /export/dfsroot
root# chown root /export/dfsroot
root# chmod 755 /export/dfsroot
root# ln -s

Cannot share RW, "Permission Denied" with sharenfs in ZFS
Hi everyone,
I have just installed Solaris and have added a 3x500GB raidz drive array. I am able to use this pool (''tank'') successfully locally, but when I try to share it remotely, I can only read, I cannot execute or write. I didn''t do anything other than the default ''zfs set sharenfs=on tank''... how can I get it so that any allowed user can access

LDAP BDC- Classic Domain
Hi Guys,
We're trying to add a BDC in Samb4 classic domain setup. The Samba 3 How -To and Samb3 by Example covers this but uses the old slapd.conf option, we are using the slapd.d config. I couldn't find a similar document for Samba4
Can you please advise that the following steps will work? LDAP in the existing PDC is working using the smbldap tools
- Setup the LDAP in BDC
