No full administrator-permissions on local machines with samba 3 domain login
hi, does anybody know about the following situatuion and it's solution ? we configured an samba3 as pdc - sure in the way it was often described. but if we login on a windowsXP as domainmember (member of the admin group) it seems like we do not really have full administrator-permissions. we can add useres and can do some other tasks only an administraor is allowed to do. but some stuff

Using LDAP and Unix Group Group Mappings
Hello all, I could not find anything in the discussion groups or documentation about using LDAP and Unix group mappings. The documentation states that in order to map unix groups to samba groups, you need to use the net group add command. However, I have an ldap backend and all my groups, that I care about are in LDAP. So I have a group called mainwdev. dn:

How to provision many users with unix Attributes without RSAT
Hi, I would like to provision a huge number of users to a Samba AD/DC and I would like to have the unix attributes set too. I don't want to use the RSAT GUI and manually set each. Is there any tool or script I can use to get that? I have identified some attributes in the AD that are added when I set unix attributes with RSAT GUI. However there must be more changes... Problems with password authentication on Samba as an AD-Member
Hello, I've got some problems with a Samba Server. The Samba Server is member in an Active-Directory Domain (Win2000), it is NOT the domaincontroller. Authentication is kerberos-based (smb.conf: securty=ADS, winbind). The Sambaserver is accessed by Windows-Clients, that are domainmembers and by some Windows-Client, that are not. Originally Users, who were logged on the domain could access

home directories with winbind
Hello all, I've installed samba-3.0.1 on a linux machine that has a role of domainmember in an NT domain. What I would like is that there would be nothing to do on the linux machine when adding a user in teh NT domain. For that I have started and configured winbind that works fine. But I want to create a share for each user on the NT domain. I have in my smb.conf a [homes] share, but when a

Doubt about Unix Attributes
I can configure UidNumer and gidNumber attributes by Microsoft RSAT tool and the value is stored. When I click again on the tab "Unix Attributes" appears a message saying "Not is possible the execution". I click OK button and the attribute is correct. Why appear this message? How can I verify if the NIS service is working correctly? Regards, Márcio

SID to UID conversion problem
Hi folks! I have a problem with SID to UID translation on one of my domainmember servers since I use a newer version of samba (3.4.0). The PDC is running samba 3.0.28 and uses LDAP. On the domainmember everything is working as expected (login with domain user, wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g) but when it comes to convert the SID to UID it fails: $ wbinfo -S S-1-5-21-2106500839-766785134-2740805053-6093002

UNIX attribute UID no longer increments with RSAT
Hello, I'm using rfc2307 to enable Unix attributes on my DC's. Recently when adding a user and attempting to add a UID with the RSAT, I receiving the following error. 'Duplicate UID. Assign a uniqueUID.' How do I list all users and their UID? I tried using 'pdbedit' and wbinfo. Pdbedit appears to list the XID's and wbinfo needs me to specify a user name. I

Maintaining Unix Attributes in AD - best practice?
Hello, we are testing migration from a NT style Samba 3 domain to a Samba 4 AD domain. As we are keeping RFC2307 Unix Attributes in the AD we also want to add them to future accounts. Because the Unix Attributes tab is no lopnger available since Windows 10, I am looking for the best way to add Unix attibutes to users. I know that setting Unix attributes in Windows 10 ADUC tool is possible

Fwd: Re: Samba AD Manage User, set unix passwd
I need the unix password for mail. the user should not be able to change this, if win* password is changed. In the wiki i have read that you should not mix RSAT and samba-tool management, thats why i ask. is there a way to set a unix password after a domain user is created?
