SCCM and other MS tools compatibility with Samba 4.x.x (Functional level 2008R2)
Hello Folks,
We're using Samba as AD servers along with Windows AD Servers (2008R2 FL).
We also use SCCM (Current Branch) that is dependent on AD for lab
deployments (Windows 10).
Currently, SCCM (current branch) supports 2008R2 FL, but for how long???
Samba does not support 2012R2, 2016, 2019 FL.
We'd like to remove the Windows Servers from our AD infrastructure, but
would also like

Samba 4.6.2 does not inherit setgid bit (anymore)
thanks for suggestion, in other words you use only ACLs for users
denying all for groups, unfortunately we had many group such as domain
users, secretary, finance, etc belonging to users for which we need to
apply at least 770 in order to gain a simplified permission management
using groups
the actual dirty workaround I applied was to track new files/dir by
tailing with follow ( tail -f ) a

The user scope GPO are run with the privileges and access tokens of the
logged on user, so the user have local admin rights for install and need
access rights to the share you

software deployment
Hi,
Just wondering: What are you guys using to deploy software on your
windows (7) workstations within the samba4 AD?
These are options I know of:
* wpkg (but it seems it's development is not too active)
* wpkg-gp using the group policies
* www.opsi.org (Client Management System for Windows clients)
* standard windows software deployment, but I think that's msi-only

Need help in writing a shell/bash script
Hi Friends,
I am trying to write a shell script which can merge the 2 columns into
3rd one on Centos 5. The file is very long around 31200 rows having
around 1370 unique groups and around 12000 unique user-names.
The 1st column is the groupname and then 2nd column is the user-name.

Deploy software in fileserver folder
Hey Luke, thanks for the help!!! It's working now!!!
God bless you and your family!! :D
Remember that GPOs need to run as the context of either the computer or the

how to become poweruser?
If you log in you will be a Windows 2000 standard user. Some applications need
to run as poweruser. How can I configure samba to log in certain users as
powerusers?

Active Directory Integration Problems
Hello everyone,
I have setup Samba 3.0.28a on an Ubuntu 8.04 server. The setup that I
am working with is an exact copy (as far as I can tell) if an identical
installation that I did on a test box. Kerberos is setup and working
properly. I can use kinit to issue tickets. The box has been
successfully joined to the Active Directory domain. I can enumerate AD
users and groups. I can log

4.11. x if I remember correctly, so okay to start with, but can I
introduce to Louis Van Belle's repo:

Once you get up and running, you can use the packages there to keep current.

PXE booting WinPE with UEFI architecture
This got me closer, but it got to "Encapsulating winpe.wim..." and never went through the rest of the way. Ultimately PXELINUX apparently timed out and the machine rebooted.
Here is relative portion of pxelinux:

MENU LABEL ^2. SCCM OSD Boot

Chain-loading from WDS to PXELinux on a different tftp server
Thanks for your email. Yes it does provide some insight into why I could hack a Linux DHCP server into providing enough PXE boot information for PXE 3 clients but PXE 2.1 were happy (ROMs under many circumstances need to use proxy dhcp 4011 - as documented by IBM on the link I shared earlier).
It appears only the most latest Dell business systems have EFI 64 support, and the best you can expect

Make new server the "master"
Thank you everyone for your help. I corrected my resolv.conf files as Peter
Milesson suggested and then had to take a number of extra steps so now
things are looking a little better. In case it helps anyone else in the
future, here's what I found (plus I am now having problems resolving
internal addresses).
As far as I can see, the setup on both servers is identical (except they

Samba-4.8.5 and SCCM-5.0 Problem Extending the Schema
G'day All,
We are trying to set up SCCM-5.0. Our AD test is Samba-4.8.5.
SCCM requires schema changes, and Samba is rejecting these.
Anyone tackled this? Ideas on how to proceed?
The output thrown by the SCCM exe (extadsch.exe) is:
