Hi Rowland,
Whatever is occurring has happened again today. I had to "chown -R" my
wife's home/Profile directories and files. Very strange and makes me

User idmap lost
Back on February 28, 2018, I started a thread "User permissions of
profile/home directory lost" describing a problem occurring with my
wife's user account. Since that time the random problem has persisted so
I turned on some debugging. I have been able to determine that somehow
her account idmap is broken. Here is the entry for my wife's SID as
found in the idmap.ldb file

Convert Member Server to DC
I have some hardware running CentOS 7 and Sernet Samba 4.7 that started
out as a member server that I would like to make into a 2nd DC. However
I am having trouble converting it because it seems I am not removing all
the remnants of the client setup. What I thought I would have to do is this:
1.) net ads leave -U administrator
2.) Remove the machine entry on the 1st DC
3.) mv /var/lib/samba

Problem with one User after upgrade to 4.5.0
Well I upgraded from 4.4.6 to 4.5.0 and discovered that one of my user
accounts is completely borked. What is very strange is that everything
in Samba looks okay. Here is the first problem symptom. The data is from
the DC.

How to Migrate Samba AD from one server to another
I would like to move a Samba AD from one server to another. I am finding
the documentation on the web somewhat lacking. Can somebody point me to
documentation that might help step me through an acceptable migration path?
Will the command

No sound hardware detected for other users
Hey Y'all,
This morning my wife complained that she had no sound when she was
logged on to my machine. I logged on to her account and brought up
System/Preferences/Sound to see if she had inadvertently selected some
other sound output device. Hey, it happens. There was no sound
hardware detected. I have a USB microphone and an integrated on board
sound card. Neither of these sound

Samba corruption and SuSE 8.0]
All,
I hope you can help, I've searched the archives and found some reference
to some file corruption problems, but with earlier versions of Samba to
what I am running.
Having replaced my old NT4 server at home (after it's boot disk died)
with Samba running on SuSE 8.0 I've had 3 instances of files becoming
corrupted when saved from my wife's Windows 2000 PC. What happens is

how to share wine programs between users?
Hi,
I installed Office 2007 under my account, but mostly it is my wife that needs to use it.
I hadn't realized that installs apply only to the particular user account.
Isn't there a way to install software such that wine can use it for any user on the system?
I tried moving my .wine directory to /home/.wine and then symlinking ~/.wine, but that only works for me... if I try it under my

mbox and pop3, maildir and imap
Hi,
Been reading a lot of posts about dovecot configuration, but can't really
figure out if what I want is even possible or how to achieve this.
My setup is simple :
One linux machine that collects mail from my provider and sorts them for
me and my wife, where my email is stored in Maildir format in
~myuser/.maildir
and my wife's email is stored in mbox format in

strange problem printing to windows box
My wife has just gotten a new printer which works perfectly when
connected either to her Win98 box or to my woody box. However I am
unable to share the printer between the two machines. Here are my
choices in order of increasing desireability.
I could of course just move the cable whenever I want to print from my
box. This is the obviously least desireable option.
The windows machine can

Centos 7 member server login fails
I have a problem that is now becoming very annoying. Namely I have a
Centos 7 member server running Sernet Samba 4.7.4 for which everything
seems to work except gdm or ftp logins. On the linux client it seems
winbindd is set up correctly. For example (the data shown below has been
sanitized):

Route incoming call on 4 X100P to different Ext. {Scanned}
Hello All,
I have 4 X100P cards. I was hoping to have card (line) go to separate ext.
i.e.
Card 1 (XXX)555-0001 My Ext
Card 2 (XXX)555-0002 Wife's Ext
Card 3 (XXX)555-0003 Fax Ext
Card 4 (XXX)555-0004 My and Wife Ext.
This is what I have now and all incoming line rings this one extension.
exten => s,1,Dial(SIP/300,10)
So what is "s" .
Thanks, David

Moving from Fedora -- Advice??
I'm running Fedora14 on all machines, including my wife's -- and
I'm the nearest (distant) thing there is to tech support.
She's far more likely to outlive me than I her; so I want to
install something requiring a lot less maintenance on her machine, so
that she'll have it and be used to it, years ahead of need.
I'm thinking CentOS 6, whenever it's ready, is
