Windows rejects name registration
Dear people of samba, my problem seems to be a firewalled WinXP in our net. Our Samba is the Debian testing (Samba 3.x). It is configured to hold the browsing list and to become master. The nmbd.log shows: [2004/06/09 08:17:38, 0] nmbd/nmbd_incomingdgrams.c:process_local_master_announce(311) process_local_master_announce: Server PRAEPLAB at IP 129.217.168.62 is announcing itself as a local

Problem with network browsing
I'm trying to diagnose why my windows 10 clients can't do network browsing. The network neighborhood doesn't show any of my machines running samba. I've verified that all of my samba hosts are running nmbd! I've reached the end of my ability to debug this, so I could really use some help from the list to figure out why this isn't working. I've isolated the situation

wins: no nmblookup on 192.168.1.255 but 192.168.1.2
Hi, here is a client computer and a server computer (Debian Wheezy, armel, samba Version 3.6.6, IP address: 192.168.1.2, Name: xyz). Problem: wins doesn't answer nmblookups by the client on the broadcast address: client$ nmblookup -S xyz querying xyz on 192.168.1.255 name_query failed to find name xyz Why is that so? How to fix this? When I specify the the server IP I do get an answer:

A domain controller for the domain could not by contacted (2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian)
Hello, I'm having problems using Samba as an primary domain controller. I am using debian woody as our platform. The version of samba is "2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian" and i followed the instructions which can be found on the following url: http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/eserver/tutorials/samba/. In short this covers: - creating the config file - creating the users /

Samba BDC in the same subnet not getting connection requests
Hi, I have a Samba 3 PDC running with around 20 Windows XP/2K clients. The PDC and the clients are in different subnets. I recently decided to add a Samba 3 BDC in the same subnet as the clients, to give some failover and also to reduce across-switch traffic. After creating the BDC, I restarted one of the clients but don't see it establishing connection with the BDC, instead it connects as

XP can browse samba by IP, but not by name - NMB issues?
I have an XP home (falcon) and an XP pro (tatooine) machine, both behind a rh9 box (hoth) acting as firewall. I've been trying to get samba set up on the linux box. I think I have it mostly working except that the XP boxes won't list hoth under "My Network Places - Microsoft Windows Network - MSHOME", and I cannot access hoth by name at all from the XP-pro box (by IP, I can

authentication problems after upgrade to samba 3.0.7-2.FC1
good evening all, i upgraded my last samba 2.2.7a (dog2) this afternoon and have run into problems. first, the setup: windows 2000 clients three sites on three seperate subnets connected by t1 through routers. each site has a samba server that authenticates the users on its subnet. the workgroup name for each server is dognet. /etc/passwd, /etc/group, and smbpasswd are synced up manually.

smbclient lookup fails when querying local machine
Debian Sarge, Samba 2.2.12 (legacy install), openLDAP 2.2.17, connecting to a PDC running Samba 2.2.8a. The machine in question failed DIAGNOSIS.txt step 3. I've got a really odd issue -- a Samba server that can "smbclient -L" everyone but itself. Samba still serves shares and PDC authentication works fine, but this failure is annoying, and as such, must be fixed. :) -- issued

Help troubleshooting "find_domain_master_name_query_fail" on SMB v4?
I'm running smbd -V Version 4.1.0rc2-3.1-3075-SUSE-oS12.3-x86_64 This is a standalone server, and the only SMB/CIFS instance on my LAN. On launch, I see the following "find_domain_master_name_query_fail" error in logs. I can't track down what I've managed to do wrong; pointers appreciated. ==> log.nmbd <== [2013/09/07 16:21:41, 2]

Mapping subfolder of a samba share in Windows fails with access denied
Hi, I am trying to map a network drive on a Windows 7 client. It is possible to map the shared folder, but as soon as I try to map a subfolder, Windows shows an access denied message and prompts for another username and password. The user has full control over the subfolder (configured via the Windows security tab). The samba.log shows: Aug 22 10:25:19 FILESERVER smbd[5409]: Could not close

Browsing Issues
Hi - I'm having some problems with network browsing using a Samba PDC (3.0.22) and I'd appreciate any hints that might push me in the right direction. One of the problems is that I am on a very crowded subnet that is being used by several different groups. There are a two separate WinNT/2000-style domains active on this network as well as an AD domain controller. Here are the

cross-subnet domain join issue
I am one hurdle away from finishing my test PDC with ldap and password sync. Its been a hair raising effort... and if I can solve this one issue, we'll be ready to kick our Windows PDC out the window. When I attempt to initially join the domain ( LOGOS ) from a win2K client residing on a different subnet, I get the following: -------- The following error occured validating the name

Diagnosing IPv6 routing
I just got 50 Mbps symmetric fiber from AT&T and it includes a /56 of IPv6 addresses, replacing a much slower ADSL line. I never tried to get IPv6 working on the old connection. I'm using CentOS 7 as a gateway and it's worked great for several versions for IPv4. I'm not seeing any IPv6 default route on the WAN interface. I suspect I'm not getting route announcements. I

Samba Authentication with a windows password server
Hi all, I'm trying to set up Samba on a client's computer so that it authenticates the users which are accessing it via a windows domain controller and kerberos. I've been following various tutorials and it all seems to go through correctly but when the client tries to access the shares, it doesn't accept his credentials and won't get past the login window. The only failure
