DFS redirection to sub-folders beyond share
Hi,
I already posted this to smb-clients, but I believe that is a very low
volume list.
We have a very complicated dfs root. Now I'm not positive that this is
how we should have done things, but it works very well with Windows
clients, so it hasn't been thought about here. This does not work with
smbclient or smbmount. I'm using freshly built smbclient from Samba
3.0.21a.

msdfs proxy and subfolders
Hello, everyone,
I'm seeing some inconsistent behavior across SMB clients when
configuring shares using the "msdfs proxy" parameter, and was hoping
to get some advice from the community on this. My issue is that
various SMB clients seem to behave differently when this parameter is
pointed as a path that includes a sub-folder under the root share.
So, given the following share

Dfs - Load Balancing
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with using the Dfs
functionality within Samba.
I've been searching for any performance information and or documentation
regarding Dfs in particular load balancing i.e.
1) How does it load balance? Is it some sort of round robin?
2) Is there a limit to the number of servers that can used in the load
balance?
3) How many requests per

Question about DFS
1. What is the ordering method of a DFS Share with multiple servers (e.g.
msdfs:serverB\\share,serverC\\share linkb ; Source:
https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/msdfs.html)?
With a Microsoft DFS i have 3 options regarding the target. (Targets in a
client's site are listed first in a referral. Nevertheless i can choose
between: Random order, Lowest cost, Exclude targets

I'm really slow to respond her, but I didn't see any other responses.

DFS enumeration on a Samba hosted DFS tree.
I've translated a Windows based DFS tree to a Samba based (3.0.23c)
one and it seems to work quite well from Windows Explorer and cmd.exe.
First off, I have a relatively big tree.
grep dfscmd /root/dfs.cmd | wc -l
1614
One issue I've noticed that tree enumeration and manipulation from a
Windows machine to a Samba based DFS root just doesn't work at all.
For instance dfscmd.exe

Redundant DFS via DNS entries?
Hi:
I'm trying to create a group of samba/NFS servers.
The NIS/NFS/Automount part has always worked fine. Now I'm trying to
duplicate what automount does w/ DFS.
A single DFS server would be a single point of failure. I need redundant
DFS.
I've configured a pair of samba servers, w/ DFS on each one. Each
machine has a few non-dfs shares referred to by dfs links.
I've

dfs in lme
Dear R-mixed-effects-modelers,
I could not answer this questions with the book by Pinheiro & Bates and did
not find anything appropriate in the archives, either ...
We are preparing a short lecture on degrees of freedom and would like to
show lme's as an example as we often need to work with these. I have a
problem in understanding how many dfs are needed if random terms are used

DFS questions...
I have been looking into DFS (no R) with Samba and found the page https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Distributed_File_System_(DFS) and do have some questions:
?There is currently (July 2014) a discussion in the mailing list in which several users report great difficulties with domain-based DFS in samba 4, maybe related with the implementation of smb protocol version 3.? ? is this still true or has

No, there are 2 ways of configuring it, the wiki has the symlink method,
below is the other method.
I don't like broken symlinks on my machines, therefore this is what I
prefer.

dfs problems addressed in 3.0.25b?
Is the issue below addressed in 3.0.25b? (no freebsd port available yet
so I'm still at 3.0.25a)
I can't see anything specifically about this in the release notes.
I just want to add that I've also seen this behaviour on a windows xp
x64 client.
It's a pretty serious problem.. so I'm also thinking I may have to
revert to an earlier version if it doesn't look like a

DFS not working w/ fully.qualified.sub.domain
Hi:
I've got a samba/DFS server configured that works fine under it's
original name, but I'm getting booted out of that DNS domain, into a
subdomain.
All my (WinXP) clients have drives mapped to names like
\\server.domain.com\dfsroot.
If I browse to the path, \\server.domain.com\dfsroot, everything works.
I can access the shares pointed to via the dfs links
But, now the network is

Authentication problems using libsmbclient to traverse DFS links
Hi,
I'm trying to create a map of DFS links to actual server/share's.
I know that you can get this information by logging on to the DFS root
server, but I'm trying to use the libsmbclient API to
get this information.
I have created a fairly simple DFS structure on 2003 servers with
everything on the same domain.
//MyDomain/DFSRoot
/Link1 -> //Fileserv-1/FileShare1

DFS + LDAP
Hi!
My situation is that I configured samba with ldap authentication, I created
shares and and after I created standalone dfs for these shares. (Everything
is on the same server) I have a client debian with gnome and ldap
authentication, so I can login on this machine with ldap users. My problem
is, if I try to access dfs share with nautilus with the same user, with
which I logged on the machine,

XP + SP2 + DFS + netbios alias = not working
Hi all,
I'm using Samba 3.0.6 (on IRIX 6.5).
This is just a 'let you know what I've discovered' message really.
I've just installed upgrade a laptop here to SP2 of Windows XP. It then
started failing to make network connections.
After much fiddling about, I tracked it down to DFS shares. This PC can
now connect to the DFS root OKay, but doesn't recognise the entries

MS DFS
Trying out the new DFS support in samba 2.2 i can't seem to get it to
work.
All the docs mention that a configure parameter is needed to build in
dfs support. Do the binary rpms on the samba site have dfs support
built in?
I notice that if i give a bogus option in the smb.conf file it will
complain about it in log.smb, would it complain about the dfs options if
samba was built without dfs

DFS not working from XP
Hi,
I'm am trying to configure our samba server to use dfs. It authenticates
against active directory but it gets the uid mappings from nis via the
local
nsswitch. I think I have configured dfs ok as smbclient[1] seems to work ok
with my minimal config[2]. However I can't access it from Windows XP[3],
I get
"network path was not found" when using "net use" from a
