samba AD: using passwd on linux to change PW
Thanks a lot. I will check it.
We do not use kerberos - is it necessary ?

samba4 auth (ldap) starnge problem
Hi,
we have updated our samba4 AD a few weeks ago from 4.4.latest ->
4.5.latest using the sernet packages.
We are using open-xchange(OX) as web-mail. The ox is using ldap to
authenticate the users.
It is still working, but only for users created BEFORE we did the
update. All new users can not login!
From the log file we only get an:

samba 4.x slow ...
Hi,
we are running samba 4.4 on two machines as file servers.
Both are running a GFS (stornext). The storage is attached using 8G HBA.
You can get up to 800MB/s local speed. We are exporting the shares using
2x1GB
and 2x10G. However the clients are only getting 40-50MB/s. With samba3 I
think we had up to 80-90MB/s.
Using a 100MB/s link for the client we see 12-13MB/s (wire speed).

freeradius + NTLM + samba AD 4.5.x
It is an issue that I myself would also like to solve.
I found multiple threads in samba and freeradius mailing lists. It seems
that every couple of months there is question like this either here on
FR mailing list and all point down to the same issue, that is:
freeradius uses ntlm_auth (even when using winbind with newer freeradius
versions, it also in the end uses ntlm_auth). And since

remote password change, if password is expired
Hi,
I don't know if the password check script is executed if you change the password using samba. You can simply test it:
Download "LdapAdmin":
http://www.ldapadmin.org
Connect to your DC as a user. Then navigate to your user object and click on "Set password" in the context menu. Then you can verify if your script will be executed.
Other options like the password length

samba 4.x slow ...
just to verify basic facts:
Did you cross check vie network sniff, on which SMB protocol versions Server + Win 7 clients agree ?
Or did you pin down via registry ?
AFAIK only starting with win 8 or win 10 clients you could ask with powershell, which protocol version is in use.
Did you also cross check samba logs for a name resolution issue ( windows names, not DNS)
if one of your boxes is an

Migration samba3 -> samba4
Hi,
we are still using a setup with openldap + samba3. On the unix systems
we are using ldap for authentication, for all windows clients samba is used.
When we migrate to samba4 what will happen to the unix clients ?
Can they ask the samba4 PDC ?
For an update . are there other Howto's as the

Problem with R using pgi compiler on x86_64
Hi,
we have installed R-2.8.1 using the current pgi compiler (8.0.2) for

timestamp OK, but not displayed correctly
Hi,
we found that the timestamp of files is not displayed
correctly, since the time switched to summer time.
The file server has the right time and under unix
the "ls -l" shows the correct time, but under windows
1h is added (all files seems to live in the future).
Any hint ?
Bye,
Peer

UNIX credentials for Samba Share
Greetings,
For years I have been using my Samba server and authenticating users via winbind to my NT4.0.
I am now in a situation where I want to provide shares to users who are not domain members. I have created the file shares and the UNIX users/groups that I want to use for this folder structure. I am using the 'setfacl' command to apply the user/groups access rights to the specific

Samba as printserver; problems with settings
Hi,
we are using cups 1.1.15,samba 2.2.5 under suse8.0
for printing.
Everything works well (driver download), but we have
some problems with the settings for the printers.
Under NT 4.0 it is not possible to set "document defaults"
all values can not be changed (only in the printing dialog).
Also everything is lost, when you log off.
What can we do to fix it ?
The problem is, that

cupsaddsmb - problem; once again
Hello,
I posted 2 weeks ago this problem and it is currently not working.
First thanks a lot for all the hints and helps.
In the attached file I have added (hopefully) all informations.
To summarize:
I want to setup a print server, which allows the user to
download the necessary files for new printers.
Installed are (on top of suse 7.1) samba 2.2.6_pre2 and cups 1.1.15_1.
Installed the printers,

Currently i have installed cups-1.15 and samba 2.2.5
