Minimal AD DC server for dev/test setup
About the last question, I'll be reading up on samba-tool. Apologies.
A better question is: can I run the DC without an attached DNS server? How
little can I get away with running?
In my imagination, I should be able to run just the LDAP+Kerberos parts,
AIUI that's all I need, skipping DNS, fileserving, winbind, etc; blame this
on my view of AD as a quirky LDAP. Again, scoped for my use

Minimal AD DC server for dev/test setup
Thank you Louis!
I had
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_an_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller
in my bag of tricks, now from your link I found
https://github.com/thctlo/samba4/blob/master/howtos/stretch-base-2.0-samba-minimal-ad.txt
which looks good.
Our Linux platform is CentOS at this time (but I've been a DD and long time
debianista). I'll go through both.
How do

Fair enough.

Noted, thanks!

Actual diffs in puppetdb?
Any plans to get the actual diffs of file changes into puppetdb? Right now
you get the hashes of the buckets on the host, but if diffs could get into
puppetdb, it could be extremely useful.

DR hot/warm spare node patterns / anti-patterns?
With our without puppet. We are looking at setting up DR nodes with
some draft ideas. We use puppet against a git repository (with ppg)
instead of against a puppet server. Nodes are actually VMs.
Configuration ideas:
- a filesystem-level flag that indicates that the node is running as
standby spare, to use as conditional in bash/python scripts as well as
in puppet
- some services

R question type in Moodle
Moodle (www.moodle.org) is an open source course management system, a
competitor to Blackboard. I am writing several hundred R questions
that will be used within the quiz module in Moodle. Unfortunately,
Moodle does not have a built in question type for R. You can read
about the different questions types in Moodle here:

They installed zentyal and set up a DC to work online with moodle. Imagine
if our internet link goes down and students can't authenticate with moodle.
I say this because I work in a school in a city in the interior of my
state, and the connection is still a little precarious.
But the main

zentyal management
I use RSAT to manage 2 DCs and 1 fileserver. Our aws partner install an
instance of Zentyal to work on cloud for Moodle service auth.
It's able to, for example, change or reset password via web manager of
zentyal without break my 2 DCs?

Power User Tipping Point: PHP to Ruby
I have been waiting for a tipping point to start using Ruby
applications instead of PHP applications. My criteria include the
availability of Ruby and RoR web hosts and Ruby equivalent applications
readily available for PHP. I keep finding PHP applications to fill my
needs but not Ruby applications or hosts offering Ruby support. For
example, I use content management systems which are

Hello to all
Hello to all,
My name's Can, I'm a server administrator in a middle-size company.
I have a small question about Icecast.
I'm about to create an online learning platform for blind users. I
installed Moodle, would like to embed audio contents into lessons to
prevent downloading.
Is it possible to use Icecast as an audio streamer? I used it for a
radio before, but after installation

DNS (bind_dlz) forwarding not working
Hello,
I provisioned an samba AD with the bind_dlz option. So far so
good. Followed the samba wiki.
I have a DNS for our external access services (website, moodle, etc) and
I'm using it as a forwarder to AD but it is not working.
In a win7 I configured the AD IP as primary DNS and put it in the domain.
When I try to access, for example, "wiki.samba.org" it opens normally, but

[PATCH libnbd 0/5] interop: Check that LIBNBD_TLS_ALLOW works against nbdkit.
I was a little surprised to find that LIBNBD_TLS_ALLOW worked out of
the box, so I had to examine the logs whereupon I saw the magic
message ...
libnbd: debug: nbd1: nbd_connect_command: server refused TLS (policy), continuing with unencrypted connection
I don't believe this path has ever been tested before.
It's possible the tests could be improved if they actually checked for

how to check as CRAN with alternative BLAS?
One of my packages is slated to be archived from CRAN due to failures when
the ATLAS BLAS is used. I am unable to replicate the error on my machine
under R 3.6.1 using the atlas library from ubuntu (seems to be 3.10.2-9,
while the good professor is using 3.10.3 per
https://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/Rblas/README.txt ). I also tried the
rocker/r-base with R 3.6.2

[PATCH libnbd 0/2] Change qemu-nbd interop tests to use socket activation.
Now that we have implemented systemd socket activation, we can use
this to run qemu-nbd in tests.
The first patch leaves some dead code around (the -DSERVE_OVER_TCP=1
path). It's possible we might want to use this to test against a
putative future NBD server that only supports TCP, but on the other
hand maybe we should just remove it.
Tests & valgrind still pass for me.
Rich.
