Migrating user accounts Samba 3.5.3 to Windows 2003 (2008)
Hi all, I need some help with the following problem: I need to migrate a bunch of user accounts to another domain on a Windows 2003 server (eventually to 2008R2, but that step seemed to big to do in one go). To keep all access rights etc. correct, I need to get the SID history set correctly as well. From what I've researched so far, I'm aware of

Adding a Windows Server down the road
I just started at a new company and they do not have a server at all I want to put a samba server in place but I need to make sure that in the future I could add a windows server if we buy software that requires it. Does anybody know if this is possible to do? I ideally I would like it to import the users and their information to the AD on the windows server but is not required. Thanks

Samba4, MS CAL and Windows Server as domain member
Hi everyone, I have a licencing question : do one need to buy CAL for every user in a Samba4 domain when there is a Windows Server as a domain member, knowing that the Windows server will be accessed using SMB by Windows workstations? As per http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch01.html and many other web sites, one of the main advantage of samba is that no user CALs are required. And I

Questions about samba upgrade
Hi, I'm making tests to migrate our actual 4.4.5 to a latest versions and add a second dc. I have added a second dc with 4.10.7 and seems to work fine, now I have 4.4.5 with fsmo roles and a second dn with 4.10.7, but reading wiki https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Upgrading_a_Samba_AD_DC seems that since latest days some changes about steps to upgrade, now seems that is recommended to us

Server 2008R2 won't join 4.5.0 Domain
This is actually a similar scenario to mine, I neglected to mention that before this happened, I had joined a Server 2008 R2 to the domain and promoted it to FSMO, then moved FSMO back to S4 DC and demoted the Server 2008 R2 controller. I did what you suggested and it worked! I am assuming this is a bug. Thank you for your suggestion. Thomas Maerz > On Nov 9, 2016, at 3:59 AM, Kelvin Yip via

Replication only working one way
Checking the databases against each other throws up pages and pages of errors. The two are completely out of sync now. What I have seen is that for no apparent reason, one of the servers suddenly decided it would sync with the Windows server, which appears to have updated the schema. Yesterday when I compared the databases on the two linux servers they only had a couple of errors, today, many

Samba "hijack" the connection?
Dear all, I have 2 domains: JUPITER.COM (Samba 3.0.23c - Centos5) and WIN.COM (Windows 2000 Adv Srv). I join a windows XP SP1 (MOON), first to Windows domain and then to Samba's. The problem is when I join the XP to Samba's and then try to logon to WIN.COM, the XP is instead logon to Samba, thus the username is not found. The DNS is not a problem, I set the DNS of the XP to

Migration from NT4 to W2K3 AD
Are there any gotcha's..... I am currently using winbindd and very successfully integrating my Samba boxes with the NT4 domain structure. The admin who is doing the migration (A corporate person not used to Linux at all) is already nervous about the migration since it involves Linux. Usernames are not supposed to change..but, the authentication domain is going to be a completely new

Migrating from 2.2.8 to AD 2008R2
Hi, We have an old samba server, 2.2.8a, running on freebsd 4.9, as a PDC. There's currently a temporary, standalone mode, win2008r2 with an (mssql) app that for full utility requires running on a ADC. I have very little experience with AD. An older version of mssql and the app were running on a standalone win2k server, which is still available if needed. I've found various
