Samba 4.6.8 (Non packaged version) dns update issue
Hi Guys,
I am running into an issue here.
We have 2 domain controllers using BIND_DLZ as dns backend
OS: CentOS 6.9
Samba version: Samba 4.6.8 self compiled on another host and
distributed internally as RPM packages
Bind version: BIND 9.8.2rc1-RedHat-9.8.2-0.62.rc1.el6_9.4
Almost daily I need to restart the named process (service named
restart) to make dynamic dns updates from the member

I forgot, post also:
cat /etc/idmapd.conf
( im adding it in the debug-collector atm )
There might be a mis in detecting the Domain or Local-Realm.
I suggest, add this :
Domain = jeoffice.jacklin.co.za
Local-Realm = JEOFFICE.JACKLIN.CO.ZA
see if that helps.

Hi All,
I have a very weird issue on one of my servers. I think I might just be
missing something quite obviously... I will post the config files at the

Hai Ian,
Can you run this one again on both servers and pm me both outputs.
I'll have a good look.
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/thctlo/samba4/master/samba-collect-debug-info.sh
I've updated the file, so do use the new one.

Winbind group cache
Hi All,
I have hit a snag with winbind's group caching on AD on one of our client's
infrastructure.
We have a client that is using AD groups to control ssh access to servers.
The client is running a lot of different bugfix and build versions in the
3.6 branch all running on RHEL using rpm's.
I have seen this issue cropping up in the ML from time to time and most of
the solutions

GPO, multiple DCs, sites and sysvol
Hi list,
I recently realized that using multiple DC has a major drawback when
using Samba
In my understanding, in a classical AD environment, sysvol share is
supposed to be a DFS share. This means that proximity rules are applied
when accessing to it.
When using samba it seems that we face a classical round-robin DNS,
which can lead to the situation where a machine on site A tries to fetch
