Does it work on the version of Samba in the Stretch repository (Samba 4.5.12), or do I need to find a repo with a more recent build? >>Other pages >> suggest many of the winbind parameters are simply ignored and I can >> confirm this

Problem with UID and GID
Hello everyone. I thought I had everything configured correctly but it seems not. I've got two servers. One is the AD DC and another that has been joined to the domain. This is the output I get first from the AD DC when I do a getent: root at dc1:/etc# getent group 'Domain Admins' AD\domain admins:x:3000004: root at dc1:/etc# getent passwd 'stephen'

correct is not much different, but you need a "correct" config.   now your config is simpley wrong. ( sorry )   This proves it. one question..          idmap config * : backend = rid          idmap config * : range = 100000-999999 can you write you "rid" to the samba AD.. No.        # - must use an read-write-enabled back end, such as tdb.   you need also : # idmap config

winbind wiki ( and extra sernet info conserning winbind )
Hai, ? The wiki http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba/Domain_Member ? is missing something like this tekst.? when you follow the wiki, from this point ? wbinfo -p Ping to winbindd succeeded wbinfo -u administrator dns-rtd-dc2 dns-rtd-dc1 krbtgt guest getent passwd output = only linux users ? you need to set nis (rfc2307) (uid/gid) on the users and groups in the AD, then when done, this works

Error while trying to manage file share
I checked my entire setup again and again. Now I can see the my share. The most relevant change I did (afaik - ofcourse): - since I am using ad backend I created dedicated unix admin groups (as recommended in the docs) - I removed the $ from the share section/defnition ([projects$] -> [projects]) - I changed browseable switch from 'no' to 'yes' Iam still getting the "event

Consistent UID/GID mappings?
Greetings everyone, I am currently in the process of trying to setup Samba4 as an Active Directory DC. My environment contains about 50% of Windows workstations, and 50% of Centos servers/Ubuntu workstations. Everything setup quite nicely, with Windows workstations and Linux machines being able to logon with a domain user. The problem I have is I can't seem to be able to get consistent UIDs

authentication loosely tied to active directory?
What's the best authentication scheme when you are dealing with an active directory that someone else controls? I've been using pam configured for smb and local passwords where a local account is needed for real logins (but either the domain or local password will work) and web services don't require a local account. That's most of the functionality I want and it doesn't

LDAP-based NIS server .vs. NIS migration to LDAP?
Greetings! I tried to post this question to openldap group but somehow my post never showed up there. Anyway, I built PDC using Samba3 and OPENLDAP and now like to integrade NIS service to it. I searched the net there are quite a few guides on how to replace NIS with LDAP. However, in our environment, we have almost all sorts of Unix platforms, e.g. Linux (mainly Redhat), Solaris, HPUX, AIX,

Bug in unicorn_rails when Encoding.default_internal is set
Hi, We recently made the switch to 1.9 for our large rails 2.3.14 project and ran into some strange behavior from the unicorns where encoding problem would cause blank 500 pages to be "randomly" served to users (we run ~10 x 5 unicorn workers behind our load balancer). We found that unicorn workers were dying when someone requested a url with utf-8 in it, and died in such a way that

Help with nis password changes
I normally try not to ask questions until I have done as much research as possible, and again, this is the case... Just after I thought I had my RH5 samba/nis server working fine, I come across the inability to update nis passwords. >From the server as root: passwd guest1 Changing password for user guest1. New UNIX password: Retype new UNIX password: NIS password could not be changed.

Samba with NIS Authentication
I have a huge UNIX network. I want to deploy a Samba server using NIS Authentication mechanism for the growing number of windows machines. What are the pros and cons of using NIS authentication with Samba? Also any pointer/docs in setting up Samba with NIS Authentication. I am pretty much familiar in setting up Samba using the default smbpasswd authentication. Thanks in advance
