[Announce] Samba 4.7.0 Available for Download
Hai,
If you want a MIT samba on a debian/ubuntu base server.
This may speed things up for you.
If you get this file.
http://apt.van-belle.nl/debian/pool/main/s/samba/samba_4.7.0rc4+dfsg-1nmu1~deb9.debian.tar.xz
That contains the setttings of a working, tested Samba RC4 with MIT support.
And this one compiles fine but you must use kerberos 1.15.1-2+ to make it work for the latest samba

File server questions
Hi!
Just to confirm, I don't think there is a way to test if ntp is setup
properly, right?
Moving forward to Winbindd config as describe here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configuring_Winbindd_on_a_Samba_AD_DC
It seems I just need to edit nsswitch.conf and add winbind to passwd and
group databases, correct?
The guide says tipically no configuration is required in smb.conf for

Online Backup Fails - list index out of range
In another thread on this list (https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2019-August/225607.html), Rowland suggested that the following
command doesn't work ie it still requests the password:
samba-tool domain backup online --targetdir=<output-dir> --server=<DC-server> -k yes
However, I tried it out on one of my DCs and found it created the backup but failed at the end as this

I have this warning message when I try to logon using a domain user to the DC

I have set up PAM using this file: /usr/share/pam-configs/winbind:

smbd fails to start after upgrade to version 4.11.6
Roy,
Im still wondering what your problem might be/where its coming from.
But we know it's interface/network related, only thing is Samba should not coredump.
So i had a good look below to see where im missing what.
And i dont see much to work with.
I have 2 possible options where, where a problem might be.
1) samba start before network is online.
A possible workaround is add in all

Adding a Windows Server 2008 as a DC to the domain fails
Hi,
I have a samba domain based on Samba version 4.7.4 compiled from sources
running on Debian Stretch v 9.3. The domain is working fine, but when I try to
add another DC (a Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition) using the Wiki at
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Windows_Server_2008_/_2008_R2_DC_to_a
_Samba_AD it fails with the error:

Users' Home Folders - conflicting advice in WiKi
Rowland,
In the Wiki page "User Home Folders", Section 2.1 "Using Windows ACLs"
correctly describes how to set permissions to allow the Windows program
Active Directory Users and Computers to automatically create the user's home
folder. But in the next section "Creating the Home folder for a New User"
3.1 "Using Windows ACLs", the blue box states

SAMBA 4.7.4 with MIT Keberos
Hello,
i installed a SAMBA 4.7.4 AD Server on Ubuntu 18.04 (BETA). SAMBA4 was
compiled from source. For MIT Keberos i also installed libkrb5-dev and
krb5-kdc and compiled with the "--with-system-mitkrb5" option.
The installation runs pretty good (some dependencies problem, solved
manually). But now im not able to test kerberos:
# kinit administrator
--> kinit: Cannot find KDC

Restricting AD group logging on to Servers
Hi,
I have a Debian Stretch system running a self-compiled version 4.7.3 of Samba. Having followed the Samba WiKi to allow AD users
to log onto the servers using PAM authentication, I now want to restrict access to specified group(s). So I created a linuxadmins
group and made some test users members of the group.
Initially I tried to restrict access by modifying /etc/security/access.conf
