SYSLINUX doing odd things since upgrade
Hello list! I'm tearing my hair out over this. I have a USB flash drive that has been working nicely with SYSLINUX for about a year, and I have upgraded SYSLINUX on it a couple of times during that period with no ill effects - including a complete format/re-install from scratch. However, on Friday I was using this drive (and it was working) and I decided to upgrade to the latest version

Winbind cache problem after upgrade to 3.0.25b.
Have just upgraded from 3.0.14a to 3.0.25b. On starting winbindd it puts the following in /var/log/messages: initialize_winbindd_cache: clearing cache and re-creating with version number 1 All the winbind UID/GID mappings are lost and it starts again from scratch. Hence all file ownership / ACLs on this samba server become invalid. Anyone else seen this? Why does it see fit to destroy this

Any workaround for ThinkPad memdisk?
Hi, I saw the Nov. 2006 message on Memdisk having a problem with ThinkPads. I also saw the comment in the memdisk code enabling and disabling A20. I've got a ThinkPad x61t that memdisk is not loading disk images on. The symptom is that it gets as far as saying "Loading boot sector... booting..." Then image partially runs - FreeDOS prints out its kernel message and it's

CentOS on new Thinkpads
Is anyone running CentOS on a newish Thinkpad? I have been using Linux as my primary workstation since about 97 and it seems like using Linux as a desktop has slipped over the years. After the Gnome desktop dumb-down, I have been nursing CentOS 6.8 on a 5 yo Toshiba. So I was hoping that someone has some recent real-world experience with new Thinkpads. So is anyone running a new Thinkpad? What

Mappery : uncertain Thinkpads (Repost?)
Followups set, hesitantly, to gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general I thought I had posted this to both these groups, but my newsreader doesn't show it in either. I have three Garmin GPSs (an Etrex Vista and two Rino 120s), which I want to use under Fedora 11 Linux with four PCs, and two IBM- reconditioned Thinkpads, T30 & T42. Booting problem with memdisk + Thinkpad + USB
Hi, I encountered a booting problem with memdisk 2.83, USB and IBM Thinkpad T61, apparently the same issue as described here: http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2008-April/009850.html The boot process always stops after "Loading boot sector... booting...". With debug tracers enabled, the last few output lines are: Loading boot sector... FR<p>Dbooting...

Laptop+SDMMC+Extlinux+Memdisk+Floppy images=headaches
Hello syslinuxers I'm stuck with a scientific problem which gives me headaches: I have a laptop (Gateway MX3410) which has a SD memory card reader. Recently an interesting thought crossed my mind: why don't I setup a 2GB SD card as a harddrive and put some rescue tools on it. So I dug on the net and I came across the idea of using memdisk to boot floppy images without the need of a

Syslinux 3.83 released
Hi all, I have just released Syslinux 3.83. Special thanks to my employer, Intel, for letting me spend time on this. It is somewhat of a meager release despite four months, as most of the work has gone into the future-work branches. -hpa Changes in 3.83: * PXELINUX: clear memory before handing over to a chainloaded NBP. This may help avoid a bug in Windows RIS. *

Laptop for CentOS
On 04/15/2015 12:38 PM, Eero Volotinen wrote: > Usually works fine, but try with livecd, if possible in shop? > Thinkpads usually work fine with Linux too. Thinkpads are also specifically the laptops that Red Hat issues internally for Linux laptops .. so RHEL (and therefore CentOS, since built from RHEL sources) should continue to have support for thinkpads both now and into the future.

Hi, I'm trying to boot Feature Tool 2.08 (free download from http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm) from a pen drive via memdisk. modestly priced laptop for C7
I'm looking to replace my (old, creaky) netbook (Acer Aspire One D255e, a screaming dual core 1.6 GHz Atom, and a whole 2 gigs of RAM) with something faster but not too large. Sometimes (usually) the netbook is painfully slow. Something like a hi-res 14 (or 15) inch screen (full HD), minimum of 4 gigs RAM, HD of a half terabyte or bigger. I'd like to not have to go over 600-700 dollars,

memdisk and usb flash devices as primary hard drives.
Has anybody tried to boot a dos disk via memdisk with a usb flash device as a primary hard drive? I have a 512MB flash key that when connected becomes my primary hard drive (new bios) - 0x80. If I boot a MS-DOS 7.10 floppy, one gets the command prompt and I can see the contents of my flash key as drive C:. But, if I make a image of the floppy and boot the image via memdisk, then memdisk

Critical problem with power management CentOS 7.2
Thinkpad T410 running CentOS 7 with the Mate desktop (Gnome 3 is too demanding on video capabilities for this hardware) Under CentOS 7.1 - the laptop would sleep when I closed the lid. It no longer does. I can tell because the laptop remains warm when I close the lid now, mail filters in Thunderbird run when the lid is closed, and it doesn't need to re-establish wifi when opening. Booting firmware harddisk image with memdisk fails
Hi, I once again have a problem with memdisk failing to boot a harddisk image to update my Thinkpad X200s firmware. I extracted the harddisk image from the eltorito type 4 ISO using the isobar tool. Then I added memdisk using this image as initrd to my grub, rebooted and it boots into PC DOS and then freezes (ctrl-alt-del still works to reboot the system). Inside Qemu however it works fine
