bad password lockout works fine in Samba AD mode. Is there a technical
reason for you to keep on using PDC NT4 mode? In AD mode, you'll also
get a LDAP, and it will be much easier to setup and manage!

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
I found out the answer to why the bad password count was failing by
following the stack trace
If anyone has the same problem, this was caused by my access rights being
too restrictive.
source/passdb/Init_sam_from_ldap.c:1064 => There is a "goto fn_exit;" in
case ldapsam_get_entry_timestamp() fails before the cache is read via
login_cache_read. This function will fail if it cannot

samba bad password count reset between logins (not loaded from login_cache.tdb)
Hi Denis,
Thanks for your suggestion
When I looked into Samba4 AD, I figured it would take too much effort to port our infrastructure to it, seemingly without benefits
We already have a quite extensive network architecture with OpenLDAP acting as a LDAP server. Samba4 AD seems to require its own LDAP implementation (and some more quirks IIRC).
There's also the additional DNS configuration

Samba 3.0.9 not authenticating completely
I'm relatively new to samba I have been experimenting for a week or so,
though I have setup several 2000/NT domains and have been using Linux
for a couple of years.
I'm using Red Hat 9, updated completely via apt.
Samba 3.0.9 installed from apt and i am using the stock ldap server that
installed with red hat as my back end.
I followed the samba.idealx.org guide to get to where I am

PDC problem
Hello,
I have a problem with a LDAP backed based Samba PDC.
Last week, due an hardware problem, I lost my primary LDAP server
and PDC. I reinstalled the LDAP server and populated it with the old
data, I also reinstalled Samba.
The problem is that I can't log in to samba as root
(cn=root,dc=info,dc=uvt,dc=ro). All others user accounts ar working
except root.

Failed to setup guest info
I've been trying for the past week to get Samba and LDAP to work
together as a PDC on my Gentoo box and allow some XP boxes to get in.
I've read and followed the how-to's (emerged and unmergred more then a
few times)
My LDAP accounts all seem to work when I do the ssh test into them.
Changing the domain in XP fails with the "network path not found error"
even after all

Operation not permitted mounting samba-share via cifs
Hi everybody,
I want to use my samba-shared Homedirectory from my Linux-Server on my
Linux-workstation. I was using smbfs until now, but since i upgraded my
hardware i'm not any more able to use smbfs, i get error-messages
(timeouts) in the kernel logs and I/O-Errors on the console. Having this
problems i read about cifs and that's much better, nicer, sexyer and
faster than smbfs.

My apologies for my bad english, this is not my birth langage and I'm still learning it.

Samba + pdb_mysql - password hashes disappearing?
This is using samba-3.0.2a, as downloaded from us2.samba.org today (19th
of April), on Debian Linux.
I have setup and gotten mostly-working the MySQL PDB for Samba. It
queries the database correctly, pulls in the data, etc.
However, when I connect as a user, I get:
