how to configure smb.conf after installing samba-dc.x86_64 0:4.8.3-4.el7 centos7
Hi, installed samba-dc.x86_64 on a new VM. There used to be a great web based tool to configure smb.conf or smb4.conf which used to be (in FreeBSD Systems) /usr/local/sbin/swat In a CentOS system, other than using plain vim how does one configure smb.conf? Thanks!

samba-3.0rc1 Can access PDC but not others
Hello, I am trying to migrate an NT domain from an NT PDC to a samba3.0 PDC without disrupting users or requiring them to change passwords, etc. The complication is that there are NT fileservers in the domain already, so it's important that the users be transferred to the samba machine with SID's and RID's intact (so they can access these shares with the same permissions).

Migrating from NT4 PDC to Windows 2003 ADS; Samba as member server
Here's the situation. We've got an old NT4 domain (not a Samba domain in NT 4 mode) which we'll call CRUSTY. There is of course an NT4 PDC and several NT4 BDCs. We have some Linux/Samba file servers (Samba 3.0.1) that are member servers (security = domain) of the NT4 domain. We also have several NT4 BDCs and about 200 workstations of varying vintage (2000, XP) in several

Running an NT4 PDC and an ADC side by side
Dear List, I'm planning to migrate an existing Samba 3.4.7 NT4-domain (our.site.com) to a Samba 4.1.6 AD-domain (ad.our.site.com) on another machine. Our site currently has about 30 clients and 50 user accounts. My plan is to setup the ADC on the other machine and to migrate the user accounts using the Samba4 classicupgrade tool. I would then newly setup groups, permissions, etc. on the new

strategies to run two NT4 domains or merge them on one samba host
Hi, we currently run one samba v3.0 domain "DOMAIN30" with WinXP domain members and Win7/8 accessing the file server without domain membership. Then we run a second samba v3.5 domain "NEWDOMAIN" with WinXP/7/8 domain members. Which was migrated from a NT4 PDC to samba 3.0 and to v3.5 eventually. Neither domain has anything fancy about it: users and joined workstations,

Cannot login to Samba server remotely
Hi, can't seem to login to Samba Server using notebook. OS is FreeBSD 10.3. Samba Version is 4.6.6 Connect to the remote Samba server using L2TP/IPSec connection. When trying to login it's not accepting the correct credentials. When ssh'ing to the server can login without any issue: # smbclient -Uusername //server/share Enter SERVERNAME\username's password: Domain=[DOMAINNAME]

Samba 3 PDC and ADS member server
I've been reading some documentation and can't find an answer to my question... I work in an environment where we have a bunch of Solaris 2.8 servers and a bunch of developers using Windows 2000 and XP desktops. We support a client using a Windows 2000 Server ADS PDC, and they need to map some of the NFS drives on our Solaris 2.8 servers. Currently we run a PCNetLink PDC (don't worry

Moving a Samba PDC from Solaris 2.8 to CentOS 4.4
Hello, I try to move a Samba-PDC (3.0.24) from Solaris 2.8 to CentOS 4.4 with the guidance from: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/upgrades.html#id333969 (Replacing a Domain Controller) At the moment I am trying this in a test environment. This means the following (not the real names/IPs. Just for illustration ;-)): smb.conf entries: ... netbios name = smbtest interfaces =

BUILTIN\Administrators - failed to call wbcSidToUid: WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND
Thank you both, Rowland and Louis. I'll try to answer you both and give you more info about our domain. Generally: In the past, we have Samba 3.5 NT4 domain on SLES server (designed ages before, never upgraded). In 2015 I finally decided to migrate to Samba 4 AD. In those day it was 4.2. samba-tool ntacl sysvolcheck was ok, no errors. AD worked (and working) as expected. This summer, I

Samba as PDC for WinXP, Win98 and Win95
Hello! Ive just got the lovely job of converting and old Windows NT 4 fileserver to FreeBSD, ive set up samba before as a simple fileshare but this place requires roaming profile login from WinXP, Win98 and Win95 clients. My question is whether or not any of you people have any experience with this and might be able to give some tips on the way? I've tried fidling with it but i cant get

Fwd: Support for Samba
Hi We are running the latest 4.6.7 Sernet samba packages on a Ubuntu 12.02 LTS servers with one PDC and 05 RODC's located at the branches. The sysvol replication is working fine from the PDC to the RODC's but the RODC's are failing to login the local clients when the link between the branch and the Main campus is offline. The branch computers and users are added into the Allowed

NT4 Domain PDC with Ldap backend and domain members
Hi, thanks for your answer. We are migrating on AD, but the legacy domain will stay for few a months. I still use samba 4.2 (before upgrading every file server). I don't understand how winbind will be used. I don't need an ou=Idmap as user entry in uid=login already contains the association between uid and sambaSID in the openldap passdb backend (on the DC). I just need the domain

samba 4.7.0 replication errors
Hallo, we have 5 ADDCs. All of them did run with sernet-samba 4.6.7. I updated 4 of them to sernet-samba 4.7.0, one after the other, checked replication, everything seemed to be ok. One day later a colleague wanted to delete a lot of users with a powershell-script and since then the replication doesnt work anymore. (Im sure the script is not the problem, but it seemes like it triggered something)

Is Samba 4.9 and "map untrusted to domain" possible anymore?
We have a windows domain "AD" and a samba domain "SAD" running Samba 4.9 in AD-mode. We also have an old NT4 domain called "Samba" running Samba 3.6 + OpenLDAP. We have the same users and passwords in all three. The user objects in the "SAD"-domain have the same uidNumber as in the "Samba"-domain. Workstations and users log on to the windows

There is one windows 7 notebook that also can browse any of the samba servers but no computer can access it. In other words from say from a windows 10 VM, click the notebook name in Network, immediately there is a popup saying it cannot access \\computer_name Try
